are there canadian owners of the nz around? could you please tell me, if you have the us-version in canada? I am from Germany and I would like to buy the nz on my vacation in vancouver in july. the problem is, I really do not want to be without the german "umlauts". can these be found on the keyboard of the canadian nz? thanks for your help!

I've only seen the NZ90 sold one place in Canada; a large consumer electronics chain called Future Shop has just started selling it by mail order only. Check out

Based on my experince with Palms I would suspect you would get an American one. I bought mine (NZ90/u) mail order from www.etronics.com in the USA.

thanks for the information!
what about the german characters? do you have them on your keyboard? on the European Version they are printed in red letters below the keys and are activated with "ALT". same on US-version?

The NZ90 that is sold in Canada is the same unit sold in the US, so yes it is the U model... I bought mine on the day it came out at the Sony store in here in Canada...

Just a quick confirmation that the Canadian model is the NZ-90/U. So, no umlaut, but of course if you bought one early enough you got the Japanese Yen currency symbol for free...:D

I did some tests on my NZ90/U. The accented characters don't appear on the keyboard. You can get them one of 3 ways:
a)By tapping the appropriate symbol on the international keyboard which can be displayed in the graffiti area
b)By pressing the red alt key on the keyboard and then the appropriate key. For example alt t gives an e with the umlauts
c)In theory you should be able to do it by using the pre-programmed graffiti shortcut. Jot used to support this:

but I haven't been able to get any of them to work in the Sony version!

I've had my NZ90 for about a month and I've never used the keyboard before trying it to answer your question. (I'm always in tablet mode.) I found the keys are too small for me to type quickly. Graffiti is a lot faster!

So in summary, I wouldn't let the lack of foreign symbols on the keyboard discourage you, but if using the keyboard is important to you, I'd be sure to physically try it before buying.

thank you so much! your research with your nz really helped me a lot... :)
I was a bit hesitant about buying the nz in canada because it does not make sense to use a pda in germany without the german characters. on the other hand, the cheapest price of the nz in germany is still 725 Euro, which makes 860 US$ or 1186 Canadian $. As far as I know, this is 200 US$ more than the best deals in the US.
