My work is purchasing a new laptop for me to use. This means I will need to transfer the files and apps I have for my Sony Clié SJ33 to the new computer and use it to sync.

Has anyone changed computers recently with the Clié? What is the best order to transfer files so as to eliminate problems? Please help.

Thanks.

Chris

I have a Toshiba Satellite 5205-S503, I purchased the optional Media Reader which fits into an empty drive bay.  It has dedicated slots for Memory Sticks, CompactFlash and Smart Media cards making transfer of files a breeze.

Let me clarify...I'm not asking about transferring files from the Clie to the new computer. I am wondering about transferring Clie files on my old computer to the new computer.

Sorry! Just copy your files (prc folder and other downloaded files) to a floopy and cut and paste to a folder on the new laptop.... also, go to My Computer>C: drive>Programs Files>Sony Handheld.... there you will find your user name.... click on that folder... open up the Back up folder and you will see all the files on your device..... copy those to a floppy, USB drive or burn to a CD....then you can transfer them. I hope this helps!

I will be installing the Sony CD software (Palm Desktop, MS Export, etc) on the new laptop. Should I wait to put the prc files, etc from the old computer to the new one until after I do the installation?

Don't forget; You *will* have to re-install any desktop applications on your new laptop (i.e. QuickOffice, TinySheet, SmartList, ThoughtManager, SplashPhoto, etc.). You can't just "copy" your Palm directory from one system to another, and expect it all to work. It won't work that way for applications.

I suggest making a CD (now) with all of your 3rd-party install programs on it. That way you'll be all set when your new laptop arrives. If you have everything in one place, it makes the install process a breeze.

Good point on making the CD. Fortunately the programs I have came with the Clie so they are on the install CD.

I am moving the files from all over my computer to one spot for easy transfer. I am waiting to move the Clie files until later so I don't cause any problems while syncing.
