Is there someone who switched from PocketPC to TG50? are you happy with this or would you rather switch back to PocketPC?
I like sony products very much but the only thing which stopped me buying a Clie until now was the Palm OS. I had a Cassiopeia and I liked very much the familiar microsoft environment and multitasking etc. Now I want to buy the TG50 but I am afraid I wont be as happy with the Palm OS like with the Microsoft OS.

If you are woried over Multi Tasking my advice is to wait for OS6 that will have Multi Tasking... I have owned a TG50 and i returned it... for the same price on sony's site, get the bigger screen of the NX60

As an X Palm III, IIIx user, having migrated to PocketPC through iPaq 3635 and Toshiba e570, I am considering the Sony TG50 as well, and have the same concerns as you. I have many extremely capable apps on the PocketPC which I will not be able to replace on Palm OS. Noteably ListPro, which I use all of the time, and which will force me to continue to use the e570 even if I purchase the Sony.
OTOH, I love the screen, keyboard, and built in screen cover on the Sony. (I use a RIM handheld at work and have becoming "thumb-ficient" over time)
I don't like the memory sticks since I have a huge investment in both Compact Flash and SD memory.
I am "trying" to hold out to see what the HP 1910 replacement is like before making a purchase, but as prices are falling on the Sony ($349 and Circ City plus a $50 rebate) I will probably buy one, and if I don't like it, sell it on ebay and pick up the new HP.
Would like to hear other's thoughts as well who have made the transition from PocketPc to Palm. I'm not an MS basher, BUT would love to see Palm make a resurgence forcing MS to get off it's butt and improve their OS. I shouldn't have to soft reset the machine so often, should I?
BTW, in the Brighthand HP 1900 forum, one person switched to the Palm Tungsten C and back because he missed the flexibility he had with PocketPC.

Howdy,
I had an ipaq 3835 (I think that was the number!) as well as an hp palm top. I went palm->pocketpc-> back to palm. For me, it was a matter of software (only certain medical apps are available on palm).
I must say, however, that my pocket pc, which was 200mhz, was indeed slower at some tasks (such as opening a large wordprocessor file) than my old t665 sony (66mhz). The TG is even faster. And I agree, the pocket pc is very, very unstable. I very rarely have to reset my palm. Palm is also smaller and lighter (only one pocket pc I know of is smaller).
Although the resolution is greater on the palm, the larger screen of my ipaq was very nice.
As for multitasking, well, I save that kind of work for my pc.
If you have any more specific questions, I'll be glad to try to answer them.

Yes, I had a ipaq 3955 and went back to Palm OS. The ipaq worked fine but was unstable. I usually had to reset 2-3x per week. Also missed alarms many times ???? I think the Pocket PC is sluggish compared to xscale OS5 palm devices. Have a TG50 and works very well.

I just returned to Clie and Palm OS 5 after being away for ahile trying Pocket PCs. I just today after about 8 months of that returned to Clies buying the TG50. I actually had the NX60 but took it back. Just too big. Git enough of that in Pocket PC. What I don't understand is that when I left and Palm 4.1 was out I could get small icon views in MegaLauncher and Facer. Now for whatever reason in this unit I can't except in the default launcher. Anyone tell me what I have missed and am missing??? Nice to be back!

For Megalauncher, try this:
Setup views -> large icons view ->native; font->small; columns -> 6, then go to the launcher and hit large icons view. I know you said you wanted "small icons," but for some reason, this is the only way I could get them to work (they are actually small icons like in the default launcher!).

Well I had to see for myself and ordered the Sony TG50. Amazon had them for $325.49 and I've had a $50 gift certificate on file with them for some time, so I ordered that and a 128MB memory card.
Will let you know what I think in the way of a comparison. I've been with PocketPC for quite some time now, so the transition won't be easy I'm sure, but I'll give it enough time to justify an opinion one way or the other.
I upgraded some of my old Palm standby's like Documents to Go and HanDBase. I had both PIMs, as I remember there was quite a competition between DateBook and Action Names. Any opinions on either of these as I'm sure they've improved in the last 3 yrs? I'll just download the trial versions and give them both a try when I get the Sony.
