I am down to about 3.5 meg of memory. Does anyone know what is the recommended minimum?

Thanks

It depends on the apps and OS.
OS5 needs about 3M spare RAM for it to work okay (ie. the apps running out of memory).
Some apps need about 1M free space (such as MSDict).

Generally speaking, keep about 1.5-2M free on OS4 and earlier. OS5 will need about 3M.

Hope this helps.

4 to 6 MB is better, depending on the app and whether you use PowerRun or not.

can you expand a little on what you mean when you say "whether you use PowerRun or not" ?

Cheers

Power Run is a program that allows program that supposedly needs to run from internal memory, to run on a memory stick instead.

I keep about 1.0-1.5 MB free at any given time on mine and I have had no problems running any programs yet. I like fast loading so powerrun is kind of annoying to me.
I can use fairly large documents off the MS (HP 48 manual) and power 48 has no problems running with its 1.2MB rom files.

n2ifp has a good point!
If you don't use VFS manager such as PowerRun, PiDirectII and MSMount, then 1.5-2M is usually enough.
If you need a VFS manager, then add the largest memory program that will be copied to RAM.
ie. 1.5-2M free plus XMb for program X database
Example : with Noah dictionary database, it is about 8M, so leave 2M+8M=10M free

When I run Picsel viewer, it needs at least 2mb of RAM plus whatever the size of the document. PDF's alone can take up a megabyte or more.

According to the PowerRun documentation, it needs 2.5X the memory to load and run an app.

Sure small apps are not a problem, but some are if there is not enough RAM.

Biggest app is probably NetFront brower - needs close to 3Mb RAM . Best thing to do is to use PowerRun and JackFlash as gives you extra options

I have just re-config'd my NX70 using CF Card for MP3, 128mb memory stick, jack flash & powerrun.

Now have 6mb free in Ram ! excellent, recommended set up!
