View Full Version : CF Driver version 1.1 out very soon
ayasin

The next update to the CF driver will be out very soon to registered users of the CF driver. This version has some new feaures, bug fixes and speed enhancements. Our internal tests show a speed boost of over 60% (of course your mileage may vary). Users should be very happy with the enhancements. We are already working on the next version of the driver as well...I'll have more news about that when it becomes available, or you may get to hear it from the beta testers.

We are trying to get it out today...it's mostly a logistical thing at this point...setting up the site to allow the for the download by registered users. We opted against email delivery because even though it would have been faster to set up (since we already have a fullfilment pipeline that uses it) it's not as reliable as several users reported that the email got put in their junk folder.

When it's posted on the Eruware site, will there be a download area for registered users? Otherwise, we will have to download it through the "storefront".
My 2 cents is that it would be easier to send to registered users through email. If it goes to your junk mail, then check your junk mail.

greg elmassian
05-24-2003, 08:25 PM
why do you care? do you have a cf drive that's bigger than a gig?

FAT32 also allows for smaller cluster sizes which cuts down on overhead

I wonder if the username / registration ID process has changed. Seems to me they could just post a link to the file (ftp:) if the security is the same.
My $.02.
Brownster
05-24-2003, 11:06 PM
I think each file is encrypted individually to take each users code....It is not one file fits all...I could be wrong. I think this is the way PalmMedia encrypts their books. I couldn't beam you a book because the file is encrypted based on my personal code. So I think it is a little more complicated than posting one file for all.
Hopefully they will get the website updated for Monday...even though it is a Holiday.
Thanks EruWare...I am using the CFDriver to it's fullest ability and loving it. Can't wait to give the update a work out too.

eruware should better thanks sony for having blocked the CF port. And a 1.0 version so full of bug smells like a bad microsoft product politic.
Thanks eruware.
greg elmassian
05-24-2003, 11:15 PM
if you are a registered user, then you could figure out that the software is not encrypted individually... think about the registration process you went through... you run the software, it generates a number, you send the number in and get a reg code... a simple key system... (simple in the sense of security used in the industry, not simple compared to some of the everyday palm registration procedures)
greg
Brownster
05-24-2003, 11:24 PM
Then if the file is not user specific and the same file could be used...why not just post or email it? I figured that there was some user/file specific encryption that made it harder to deliver. IF I can just use the same code from the previous registration with any file...then just send out the file. But I think that it has to be more complicated than that.

I'm pretty sure it's based off your system ID and then your hot sync ID. It's tight, whatever it is, and only mildly inconvenient.

The most reason why we choose CF driver is for cheaper and larger size CF card, so I think FAT32 is necessory.

Is there a new registration process with the new driver?
I am an impatient individual when it comes to my toys (NX70, et. al.). I do appreciate the progress of Eruware. They are definitely filling a niche that the manufacturer felt was unworthy of time or money. I hope they keep up the great work.
greg elmassian
05-25-2003, 03:53 PM
i would guess there is not a new registration procedure...
the registration procedure is that you run the software, it makes a number (from it's internal computation that uses your user name, system id, and probably other things), you send that number, and then they generate a key that the driver decodes that matches your system.
i guess the reason the file is not posted is to stop people from hacking it.... can't blame him...

Hosed yet again.
I believe this upgrade was to be released on Friday, wasn't it?
Then on Monday, and now???
I can understand it if this info was leaked out by someone not with the company, and everyone was waiting due to it, but the COMPANY made these statements
and those dates have come and passed.
Let me see I can hear the supporters now digging there way out of the wood work, but come on $27.00 for a driver which I was happy to have paid for, but they
can't even figure out how to get a delivery means in place.
I guess my first question would be are these smart children or professionals?
Come on:
A: don't make statement / commitments you can't keep.
B: don't tell everyone and there brother that there is a update coming MONTHS before its ready and then leave yet again everyone hanging.
Tomorrow will come and go and well, we are having a server problems.
Sorry but $27.00 its a lot of denier to a company that teases there customers.
I would rather not hear anything and get an update product then be told by a company that you will have something and not get it or even a word like:
OOP's I live in Texas, but stupid me I forgot its Memorial Day.
And after people posted in minutes that it was a national holiday no one corrected there mistaken commitment.
Alistar
05-26-2003, 08:23 PM
From what I can tell, its still Monday.
And as for Friday, Ayasin explained the delays.

The early announcement was that an update was in the works and it was being beta tested not that it would necessarily be released the next day.

n0m0n, while I fully understand your point of view, try to look at the whole situation from another perspective as well.
So, you're pissed, because Eruware can't keep up with the dates they told us. But keep in mind that usually companies don't annouce updates at all. Also, I would like to point you to gonegold.com , so you can see how well your average game company does with release dates. And you think those guys are no professionals? They are, but they're still only human...

Okay, lets all complain and send ayasin and company home. Lets call them names (refering to children as opposed to professionals) and make sure that the next upgrade is without comments until it is released. Lets also make sure they don't work after business hours or holidays to deliver on a comment of release time. I am sure they just said that to make certain people angry. Tease, tease, TEASE. Ohhh, they probably said it to attract criticism. I bet they love reading through the threads and being cut to shreds while they lose their holiday and time off to making something work. I know I would. (let me wipe the sarcasm off my brow) I think it would be better served to ask, is there anything we can do to help make this a little easier, smoother to deliver? My 2 cents.

Top THREE list of ways you can tell if you should spend a little time apart from your Clie and rejoin the real world.
3) Your boss actually takes the time to tell you that you should do work instead of play with your Clie
2) You waste a holiday in front of a computer hitting F5 to see if a software driver has been upgraded
1) You get "angry" at the only company that has been able to privide a driver for the CF card and expect people to sympathize with your plight

No, I meant in general as to Palm / PDA software, drivers, etc.
I wasn't complaining as to dishing out $27.00, my point just was its not the cheapest product I have purchased but it is the only one that has generated so much
frustration for me.
Let me try to address this from a different direction, I was waiting for Jackflash to come out with there OS5 version also, BUT they handled themselves so much
how should I say it if my use of professional is not like in the manner that I have used it in???
I e-mailed them and they responded in hours that they respect and favor their loyal customer base, but due to the issues they were having with Sony there attempt to
release a OS5 version has been delayed.
They asked for our patience and committed to continue to strive forward.
Well they could have told us that they were sending out there updates to the beta testers which as far as I am concerned should not be stated since I think everyone
who pays has a right to either install the betas, or wait.
Not that I requested to be a tester in fact I did not.
Or well we cant seem to get it right how to deliver the updates since we have them ready but?@?!?!?!?!@#E?@
I think these things should be well thought out before going public, or you get what you get.

How has this product generated frustration for you? If you have real issues, I'm interested in addressing them. If your issue is that there's too much communication and the company is too open about what's going on internally I'm suggesting that there are a lot of people on the other side of the fence...and really no one in either camp is happy with the current level of communication.

I have posted many times how refreshing it is that Eruware approachs their client audience in a community way. They aren't a cold, large company. They are a small company that uses beta testers. They are seemingly involved with Cliesource and when there is something to be said Cliesource has been very forthcoming about news/events having to do with Eruware. Eruware and Cliesource have evolved around this driver and I think it is a good thing that anyone can say anything (within the rules set by the monitors) whether it be good or bad, constructive or ridicule. We are all waiting for the upgrade. Some just are more patient. That is what is cool, we are all individuals sharing our ideas and comments. I haven't seen much in the way of let downs concerning this driver. So I guess I have to wait and see if the comments of deliverance will pan out. BTW...I live in Texas and I hope everyone had a good weekend...and ayasin...keep working, the driver upgrade has $5 riding on it being delivered on time.

One last thing I did not post my original thoughts on the following threads:
EruWare's A Big Tease
Anyone got the CF driver update yet???
Let's admit it... the CF driver kinda sucks.
My intention was not empower those topics but to reflect poor business practices and the effect that they have on some.
Now I am not apologizing AT ALL for what I have reflected on is from the facts that this company has stated not leaks or he said she said stuff.
There responses have proven my points.
Oh I was not the person who stated that he was hitting F5 all day long...
I have not lived in front of my computer this day.
So loose no sleep for I will not.
I just expect when someone whom I have paid says something they follow through to their words.
KEY "their words".

I think you're over-reacting a bit.... this has been entertaining, but really.... as someone stated earlier, would you have rather have had no information at all regarding the update?
I think Amir has been very approachable and forthcoming thoughout entire few months the driver has been out. To penalize him for that (which I believe you are doing) would be a mistake.

CF Driver version 1.1 out very soon
The next update to the CF driver will be out very soon to registered users of the CF driver. This version has some new features, bug fixes and speed enhancements.
Our internal tests show a speed boost of over 60% (of course your mileage may vary). Users should be very happy with the enhancements. We are already working
on the next version of the driver as well...I'll have more news about that when it becomes available, or you may get to hear it from the beta testers.
Now that was very nice great news...
today is the 26th well almost 27th here, do you think 5 days is very soon???
Now I know you remember saying on Friday it would be released and then saying:
ooops we don't know how to deliver this to our paid customer...
We will have this ready on Monday.
Read your word and find fault with my response and its not only my response but I really did not want to generate a back and forth war.

Wow I can't believe some of the crybabies on this site. Don't you guys have better things to do then sit and whine and complain cause a piece of software is not released fast enough????
Be happy the eruware is refining the driver at all. They sure don't have too, thats for sure. It's people like you that make it hard on people who develop programs. Whine whine whine.
I think some of you should put down your clie, get your butts up from your computer and go out and enjoy some sunshine. The whole world does not revolve around the CF Driver for god's sake.
Who cares if it's days or a week late. I'd rather it be late and they solve whatever logistcal problems they have then have them rush it market and there be problems.
Seems patience is a virtue that alot on this board don't have.

Its such a subjective phrase and you are being very unreasonable.
Show me a definition that says very soon explicitly means under 5 days.

A concert, thats the best you have. A concert is a one shot deal and require that you go to it not have it come to you. And in fact I have seen concerts events and whatnot that have been cancelled and rescheduled. And also in your example you don't mention that they tell people that they will not be there so you can reshedule.
Ayasin has been very forthcoming with any delays. Its not like he promised a date and then just left it that leaving us all in the lurch for a week. In any business or consumer venture you have to allow for some possible delays.

I can wait its not about HAVING HAVE IT NOW.
Its about saying something as a company and not following through.
Oh well attitude.
Accountability, your word, they should mean something in business when you take
someone's money.
Don't misread this I can wait its not a life or death thing for me.
And my boss he did not tell me not to use my Palm Clie etc.
I was saying that I don't sync at work and I had the day off so it would have been
nice if the company actually fulfilled there statement.
Now it was a statement and if you would like I can copy and paste it here to prove I

It certianlly would be a problem...it's called "Larcany by false promise". This is hardly the same thing. You paid for a driver which you have. Upgrades were free but never promised on a time schedule (i.e. 1 every 2 weeks). We are working hard on this product and will continue to do so. As I said before...registered users will get free upgrades, and those updates will be posted when we are happy with their stability. That said the update will be ready tonight.

Hey ayasin,
Its not a war to me either, actually I didn't have much to do since we are having
heavy rains here and this has been very entertaining.
I don't usually respond or use these other then to sponge off of others.
This has been fun.
Not that my points are not true to what I believe I think less talk until product and a
means of delivery is available is better, but whatever.
The only thing that gets me more frustrated is when you buy software and then when
there are updates you learn of this from PalmGear and have to wait until the company
send out a registered version.
I believe the customer...
Loyal customer who dished out the $$$ which keeps companies in business should
receive updates first or at the same time as they are offered to the masses.
Its all about good business ethics.

n0m0n, you're an idiot. I'd be highly surprised if you've celebrated your thirteenth birthday. And if you have, you would be best off to not admit it. Such an act would do nothing but galvanize the paramount lack of maturity you've displayed for us. If you're ten years old, I'd understand. Incidently, I'm not an English expert by any means, but I can generally formulate a somewhat legible sentence structure. From here on out, would you please be so kind as to author your responses in a word processor so as to be able to run a spell AND grammar check? We'd all appreciate it. And one other thing: The next time you feel inclined to harass someone about not getting something done as quickly as you desire, take a step back and apply the simple logic that IF YOU'D SHUT THE #%$& UP, MAYBE THEY COULD GET BACK TO DOING WHAT YOU WANT THEM TO DO!
For the rest of you guys that have enough intelligence to realize that just because a product is released a little later than initially anticipated, I must apologize that you had to read that. I attacked a method of business, A concept.
