CF Driver is the first SW that CANNOT be patched

I just wanted to share this with you..... The CF driver is actually the first Palm software that, as far as I know, has never been patched!!!!

My congratulations to the guys at Eurware! They really did a great job!

ummmm......i hate to totally disagree with you.

there are patched versions of the beta release. problem with this patched version is that the units keep crashing. crackers are reporting that the patch is not at fault but the version of the software that was being used.

in an ideal world id like to think that software cannot be cracked. in a real world i wouldnt like to hold my breath. unfortunately everything is crackable. just needs time.....

oh, i forgot to mention.

threads like these only achieve one thing. they provide a challenge to a potential cracker.

ask any cracker why they do it. often enough you will get the answer not because they wanted to pirate the software but to break the code and test their skills and knowledge...

I have yet to see an actual working version of anything from the released driver. There are several original beta on different sites but nothing that doesn't crash or other. It is a good piece of programming from what I understand and as long as it keeps evolving the difficulty of cracking will too. Eventually, someone will crack it but by that time it will be pointless. The new clies are due out soon so why bother now? The patches get rid of the registration screen but they don't work after that. Eruware did a great job of protecting their product (I still think that something of quality for $27.00 is a steal).

I agree with your reasoning on why people attempt to crack. Maybe Eruware should develop some security software!

I actually read somewhere that it was very difficult to crack because its one of the first - third party apps that are coded with the ARM architecture...or something like that. Not really sure. I am not a cracker...read that while just looking up opinions on the CF driver.

If the only point is to break the code for the sake of software that only costs $27, hmmm can't help thinking that some people should be doing something more worthwhile.

the more worthwile for them is, they are trying (and succeeding) to crack hundreds of programs, not just one for $27.

As i was installing version 1.1 of the driver (im a registered user) i also received this email from another source:

This email message is a notification to let you know that
a file has been uploaded to the Files area of the XXXXXX
group.

File : /Applications /CFDriver Patched.zip
Uploaded by : XXXXXXXXXX
Description : CFDriver Patched.zip

You can access this file at the URL

You can imagine my shock when i got it. I've purposely placed XXXXXX's so people cant look at the site.

The bad news is that ive downloaded this alleged cracked file to test it. And guess what it works. Version 1.0 of the software has been cracked.

Anyone know if Amir has a direct email address so i can send him the info?

I suppose you sent the link to the guys at Eruware? They probably keep files and I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of people trying to get any upgrades but alas...not in Eruwares files, then no upgrades.

I don't know if he gives out his private email...I am assuming he doesn't. You could send it to the Eruware address and he would get it. Just put attention Ayasin or whatever. Personally, I don't think even cracking it would help. If they keep records, then they would know if it was cracked. No recorded registration, no upgrades, no service. There's no telling what else is in a cracked version either. I guess you take your chances downloading something like that.

just sent amir a private message. as i said previously i have tested the driver and its the real thing. no problems what so ever.

just as a taste this is what the read me file contained within the zip file had:

Use the serial number "000000000000000000000000"
and enjoy it...


i didnt even put that many zeros in and it still worked. the zip file has three files:

cf_serial.txt
CFSlotDrvr.prc
CFUtil.prc

i dont want to place a screen shot of the actual zip file as i this might give away some vital information to low lifes i dont know about in order to get the software.

The crackers only end up ruining it for everyone. Developers will require stronger and more complex registrations in the future. We'll have to jump through more hoops, so to speak. The same thing with viruses, it's these twisted individuals that end up causing more misery and expense for the rest of us :mad:!

There are others who will spread cracked versions for whatever motives.
There are some people who will never spend the $$ for a product.

All of these people are relatively unimportant, since they are not the customers (or prospective customers)

All software can be cracked. Software can be stolen. It is up to people to decide not to steal (and to shun those offering stolen goods)

IMHO, if cracked/pirated versions are commonplace, it is a negative reflection of the user community.
This community attitude can matter more than the protection efforts in the software or the efforts of the crackers.

First let me say thanks to aussie_nx70v for the heads up on this warez distribution site. I was able to download and try the driver and it's the same one that's been floating around, and it still crashes. You may have not gotten your reg code out when you didn't put in enough zeros and so that's why it worked (because you had a correct reg code). I did a binary diff of it and it's identical to the 0.1.0 version (RC 0 for the people who were in beta). This version was known to have leaked but contained the more advanced security protection that had been in there since the earlier leaks (we weren't concerned about those leaks because they had lots of bugs...good luck to anyone who uses them...I hope you didn't need that CF card).

Again, thanks aussie_nx70v for pointing this out...there are lots of other developers apps there as well and they may enjoy a heads up too.

Nah, no problems mate. Im glad its a crap version. I hope their NX crashes and burns to anyone who downloads it.

The way i tested it was to completely remove the registered version of the driver and utility, or so i thought. I then installed this dodgy version and used it for about 1/2 hour. I put it through its paces and seemed to work ok.

You would be in a better position to tell if this version was a dodgy version or not. May there were some remnants of the registered version left in my unit to make it work ok.

Anyway lucky for me it didnt do any damage !!

I hope this has done enough damage to that site to close it down. I also hope that maybe through your contacts you can alert other developers to take some action against Yahoo for allowing this warez site to 'flourish'. i dont know.

im happy. got my registered version (1.1) running as smooth as silk. now, just need to wait until it can run as smooth as silk with a 1gb card ;P

i like to surf the internet and join up with as many sites as possible relating to the NX. This one was a new site specifically relating to the NX. I didnt ask to get this email. I guess its a by-product of the Yahoo Group to get emails like this.

Believe it or not most of these sites actually provide some good additional info on the Clie. Its just sad that some of the webmasters tend to flaunt their power to host warez....
