View Full Version : 2gig file limit on Palm
Is there a work around for the palm 2gig file limit for the TX. There is a Wikipedia Encyclopedia for the Tombraider eBook reader that is over 3gig. I am told it will not work on a palm because of the palm 2gig file system limit.

I second the petition. Apparently TomeRaider is not updating the Palm OS appl. I had to install the previous to the last update: last one, v. 3.1.10, does not sort words properly in the list, it separates accented and non accented characters (eg: há, hé before ha, he etc). I'm using V. 3.1.08, which was made in 2006. Did not find v. 3.1.09, though.
The 3 gig version of Wikipedia actually costs about 3 pounds st. I paid for that (well, an unimportant amount), but cannot use it. I'm delaying the purchase of a 8-16 Gb SDHC card for my TX.

Are you talking about the file size limit or the SD card limit?
Palm out of the box only supports SD cards, which has a limit of 2 GB. There is a device driver out there that supports SDHC card, which should then support up to 32GB SDHC cards (if you can find them, I haven't seen a one of them yet).
I should note that the driver costs some money as well.

That should point you to the correct route.

I think we both refer to the FILE size limit. I am using a 4 Gb SDHC card for my TX and a 4 Gb SD card for my T3, both using the drivers downloaded at PalmPowerups.
TomeRaider can read a 1.1 Gb version of Wikipedia for TR3, but not the 3,4 Gb file. I have tested it in my T3 and in the TX, both with the SD and the SDHC cards, which otherwise work perfectly, and can read-copy files from the palm itself.
Apparently, there was a notice in the website where I purchased the 3.4 Gb version (http://www.tomeraider.com/#getBookDetails:616), for Palm users: "Palm users, please await a palm friendly version, coming soon"...
I was over at brighthand with the question and raspabalsa gave a link to a mobipocket version.
http://pinguinburg.de/wpmp (http://) I am downloading it know. It is over 4gig and will take around 6 hours to download. Tombraider recomends a file download manager when downloading there version. They have a link to 10 free ones from lifehacker. I tried DownThemAll a free FireFoX add on. With my wireless modem it would have taken 15hours without it.
here is the ling again http://pinguinburg.de/wpmp (http://)
Just paste the address to the address bar and it will work. I tried it out and it works.

fat32 supports files of 4gb minus one byte
file size is UNSIGNED 32-bit integer.
palm api has support for files of 4gb minus one byte
if tomeraider does not support such files, the authors stupidly used SIGNED int32 and deserve all the blame
