Backupman Schedule problem

I have got Backupman scheduled to run a backup daily at a certain time - recently I have noticed that the backup does not run daily. It skips an 'odd' day or two. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Do you have all the days of the week selected? Sufficient number of scheduled backups set? Backupman is in RAM?

Sounds like all days are not selected to me:) I run it from ROM.

All days are selected and I am running Backupman from Flash - backups are on MS

I haven't had any problems with Backupman on my NX, but on my wife's SJ30, it sometimes has problems with a single file and the backup will abort. When you turn it on, there's no sign that anything bad happened, especially if the backup runs in the middle of the night; there just won't be a backup for that specific day. I would suggest running a few manual backups and see if they have any problems. If so, try to pay particular attention to which file seems to cause the problem.

It had been working fine - I have done manual backups and they work fine. As you said there is no log so not sure if there is an error happening

I have contacted Bachmann Software so see what they say

I discussed ths issue with the developer and he is checking it. He will try to add the Log facility in a future release v2 probably.

In the next week or so, there will be a new release v1.3 with some minor fixes

If you are having a problem like this i.e. Backupman skips a backup please reply to this thread as I am trying to get the developer to do soem debugging or at least speed up the process of adding a log so that problem can be diagnozed asap

My wife is still having problems with hers SJ30. Just last night I checked her backups. It's supposed to save 2 backups and it backs up daily. There was one from June 9 and one from June 11, so it had skipped the ones from June 10 and June 12. It definitely tried to run on those days, because in the morning, she'll have a message that the backup failed. The problem with testing this is that backups take FOREVER on an SJ30; makes me really love the NX.

I've never noticed anything like this on my NX, so either she has a file that's causing problems, or it's an OS4 issue.

I do not see any error message when the backup is skipped so its hard to know what's going on. I have re-installed Backupman but same problem persists on my NX. Do you have all of Backupman in RAM or MS?

On my device, BackupMan is in Flash. On hers, BackupMan is in RAM, with a copy on the MS for using after a hard reset.

I will check the Backupman schedule at the start of each day to see it actually schedules the backup - if it does then the problem is the backup process. Without a log of some type its so hard to diagnoze

I have noticed that if I leave an application (specifically AcidImage, as I have not seen this with any other) open when I turn my CLIE off that the scheduled backup does not run. Has anyone else run accros that issue?

Whenver I put the Clie back in the cradle at the end of the day I normally come of any appls and have the ZL or the system Launcher showing.

I do the same, but I schedule no backups as I prefer to do it manually. I feel more confident that way :)

I am not sure how much more can be until the developer allows for some diagnostics e.g. a log of what happened each day.

The error keeps happening and I have been talking to Mike re:problem. Told him thta other people are getting it and its becoming a big hassle. No tool or log facilit to diagnoze error. He has agreed to send me a modified version with a hack to produce a text file each time a backup runs and hopefully that may lead to why it skips a scheduled backup. e.g. backups for 15/6, 16/6 and 17/6 went OK but today there is no backup scheduled even though I run one everyday.

Will let you know what happens - in the meantime if you are getting the problem please let me know

Lalit, thanks. I plan on contacting him as well, and would like the version that will output the text file. I've spent a few hours in the past week playing with my wife's SJ30 to see if I could figure it out. With regular scheduled backups, it seems to almost religiously skip every other day (though not always). But if I do manual backups or do a series of automatic backups, switching the time for the automatic backup between each time, I can almost never make it screw up. Last night, I did 3 backups, watching file name after file name, and they all worked fine. Then on the 4th, I tried it and it screwed up, but my 3-year old asked me a question right when it happened, so I missed the file that caused the problem!! Then I tried it 2 more times and they both worked fine. UGGGHHH!!!! So, I'm very much looking forward to the new log.

Me too - its become a right hassle not knowing if the backup will work or not. I will post a note here as soon as I get the test version. I have tried various tests like ou but can never get it to mess up.

Just received the following from Mike at BitsnBolts:

"I know PowerRun is no problem, never heard of a problem with ZLauncher. I've heard of some strangeness when BackupMan is in ROM with JackFlash, but you say it's not so that should be OK.

Anyway, I'll have a v1.3beta with some rough logging for you tonight, hopefully after a day or so we can see the problem"

Thanks Lalit, but I'm actually going to hold off for now. I sent a few emails back and forth today with Mike of Bits-n-Bolts. The problem that my wife's device is having sounds like it's not related to your issues. Her error is likely due to a problem the BM has with saving a backup when the MS is nearly full but has enough room for one more backup. V1.3 apparently recognizes this problem, and then will rerun the backup rather than just displaying the error message and not running. So, I'm just going to hold off for the release version of 1.3, expected next week, unless Mike sends me the beta version. I cleaned a bunch of stuff off of my wife's system, so hopefully the problem will go away on it's own even without this version.

Well the problem occurred after 1 day - nothing in the log file as to why the schedule for today was skipped. Sent the details to the developer so will wait for feedback. Did notice that there were details of Backupman starting and exiting at times when I did not do anything in the log file - perhaps that may act as a clue

The developer did not find anything in the log text file thyat I sent to him and he is not sure what he can do next. He wants to put v1.3 out in the next week or so and then see if other people are still getting the problem. Looking at the log on the days that the backup does not get scheduled, there is an error caused by some prog. Problem is trying to find out what that is!

Ever since I cleared some more room on my wife's MS, all of her backups have went off without a problem. And on my NX, I still have never had a problem with a backup not going off as scheduled.
