View Full Version : Movie skips start straight to end over and over

What causes this? I just use the image converter, and had no problem with the first animatrix file, but ever since it converts and still plays on the pc, yet the clie just plays the title over and over in a loop.

What is going on, and how can I fix this, cause I like the animatrix movies-they are free :)

How did you convert the movie? Did you just 1) download from the website then 2) convert using Image Converter?

Also, what were the settings that you used with Image Converter?

Cheers.

The PC supports many different movie formats, encodings & compression types, whereas for the Clie it's just quite straight-forward (down to the basics/simple formats with ImageConverter).

Sometime ImageConverter still converts the movies into *.MQV yet they don't play on NX. It's the original source file... the movie clip or trailer you're using. In many cases like this, ImageConverter generates a file that actually has a different type of video/audio compression which MoviePlayer doesn't support. That's why you're getting the problem stated.

Try VirtualDub, it's freeware over the internet. It's user friendly & suits all range of users. It allows you to change different settings with the video/audio so that you can come out with a file that will go through ImageConverter & work fine on MoviePlayer in NX.

You can try to view the *.MQV file you've made with ImageConverter on your PC using QuickTime Pro 6 & see how it behaves. Is it acting the same as it is on your NX?

You can kill the infinite loop thing by going into the MoviePlayer's Properties, uncheck the repeat playback function. Then that would save you from the soft-reset.

Actually I have the Animatrix clip myself, went through several attempts and finally got it working properly in my NX. I've the Final Flight Of the Osiris episode already running smoothly off my Compact Flash Card in High-Quality (Lenght:9min30/ Size:36MB)

I'm still trying to find time to edit the rest of the mini episodes of the Animatrix.

Yes, I agree. It's the original source file which is most likely causing the problem.

If you have quicktime pro, try 1) opening the MOV file in quicktime then 2) use the 'export' function to export it into a quicktime (video?) file (MOV) leaving the audio and video settings as default then 3) use Image Converter on that exported file.

This came off another thread on the forums here, credit goes to the original author.

It has worked over the past 10 odd movies that I have converted so far, running off my CF card. Have also tried that on all the animatrix movies without any problems.

However, movies converted with the 'High Quality' setting on Image Converter occasionally fails. 'Normal Quality' has been 100% fine so far.

If you just downloaded it off the site and ran it through the ImageConverter, then problem shouldn't be that big. The source file is just probably done in a different compression (kinda like copyright protection).
You can change the compression settings with VirtualDub then should work fine.
Try changing the settings with video first (Indeo v5.0 seems to work for me everytime.). Then run again through ImageConverter to see the outcome. If there's no sound, then once again change the settings of Audio. These video stuff seems to be quite troublesome at first (all for just putting a video on the NX, whereas you can just view it right off the PC) but you will soon realize how much experience you'll gain from going through all these. I'm no expert at this, but just got the job done. :D

but of course with many help here in Cliesource

yeah, I agree with triskaideka on the QuickTime Pro, make sure you have the full version though. hehe

yeah, I come into that problem often myself, I'm just so curious though why High Quailty tends to work for me off my CF card though. Wierd as it is... I'm reluctant that I can have this bonus to run on HighQ mode. :D

Very true. Its very much a trial and error thing. After reading through these forums, I can find no concrete conclusion to a sure way of encoding to get a movie working on the Clie since everybody has tried all kinds of methods and yet, what worked for some had not worked for others.

Given a decent PC, I don't mind going through several runs. However since I only own a small and slow celery processor based notebook, I don't really want to go through more than one run :)

i encountered this too ...

However, I think I found a way to get around this.

1) Download VirtualDub
2) Re-enode the AVI to DIVX Low Motion
3) Take AVI output from VD and use Image Converter on it

Hope that helps

this is just an idea, im not a rocket scientist or somthing but this might help.

1.)i downloaded dvdx 2.2,it is free so dony worry

2.)download decss,it will automaticaly go to the right file so you wont have to figuer out where to put it.

3.)after you down load decss you can copy u.s region dvds ony,
you go to the dvd-rom drive in your computer, and go to explore next open your drive where you want to put it.....etc....c:;or d:
drive, you will know it has worked because it will take 45-50 mins
next open dvdx and go to the little 3.5 disk symbol, find where you put your movie and open it,the next part is trial and error because it is mostly understandingvideo editing, but i will tell you it will say you have so many or so video underflows you want as little as possable.after you have tweaked you movie(ohhhh by the way make your output to impeg1 that is the film icon at the bottom )anyways when you are done go to image converter and find your file and presto change-o you have a clear good audieo
and video i hope this helps you.

I've converted all 4 of the freely downloadable episodes of the The Animatrix. Where did you get the others??

Maybe we could do a switch?

I had a similar problem trying when trying to upload a *.qt movie into my NX70. I changed the MQV extension to QT when I couldn't get image converter to recognize MQV (which I found completely mind boggling, since the NX stores movies in MQV format). When playing *.qt, the start of the movie plays, then keeps on looping. I later found that all I had to do was copy the MQV files into the NX without using image converter.

While both .qt and .mqv plays fine on the PC, .qt causes the movie to run as you described.

just a thought, but i think wheter or not you have problems depends on what codecs are used on the video/audio. There are a lot of them out there, so this may explain why sometimes it works (sometimes it supported) and sometimes it doesnt (not supported)... I noticed if my videos have no codecs I never have a problem, but it's hit or miss if they are used.

i read somewhere the nx70 does not support divx movie sources. you write, you do it that way. i tried so far divx 5.02 but coult not watch them on the nx -> same behavior as mentioned in the beginning.

yea i tried that, but my problem was the movie i was trying to re-envode to divx low motion, was alrady in divx low-motion =(

What's strange is I see the first frame of the video and it just skips to end over and over....

The only movies I've successfully converted and watched are just those that have the regular mpeg codec.
