I have two NX80 PDAs. One which the digitizer is sick but I can get it to work by calculating the digitizer every time I turn it on. The other that I bought on ebay I've been using daily for a few years. The second unit is just starting to show signs of screen failure (camera never did work). So I'm searching for a new solution and my first choice would be a palm os 5 thing of some kind so I can keep all my applications.

If the pre can run os 5 software as I heard that would seem to be a good choice but I'm not going to Sprint for any reason. I'm on At&t and locked into a contract until July 2010. My second choice at that time would be Verizon.

I don't want to pay for a data plan, all I want is a phone with Palm OS 5 PDA features, or just a PDA. Does anyone have suggestions?

My primary uses are the address book, Acid Free Cell, ActiveECG (a heart monitor utility for my EKG machine), Noah Lite dictionary, a bible, and YAPS (password keeping system).

Thanks for any help you can offer,
John

You can't get the Pre without the data plan. Plus, if you somehow managed to get a Pre, and didn't have the data plan, you'd find that it is a brick.

Your best bet is to pick up a Palm TX off of ebay. Otherwise, the Palm OS as you know it, is dead.

Maybe an unlocked GSM Centro, which can be used without a data plan.

Yep that might be a good solution. Cheap, bluetooth that I need for my EKG machine, unlocked so I can use it on my ATT GSM network. Thanks for the suggestion.

I may want to switch to something better later but for now this might be best.

Thanks,
John

another option is an unlocked treo 680. bigger screen, but officially End Of Life'd. So you'd need to buy it on EBay or similar ways.

Bigger screen, bigger keypad, bigger everything--not necessarily a bad thing. The Centro is nice and compact, but I found accurate typing somewhat difficult.
