I have a connection with the palm AOL software but cannot get Netfront to work with the Ambicom or WAN card. I just get the bars searching at the top with a time out error after a few minutes. I have yet to surf the net with my Clie. Looking forward to it at some point...

Maybe this might help some, copied from an old post. Is you AOL account Dialup or DSL?

CF Modem Installation Instructions
Hello all,

I have been requested by our favorite Brazilian, Pelaca, to put together a step by step instruction set on getting a CF modem to properly function in an NX. Here goes.....

1. Obtain an NX (preferably via legal means)

2. Obtain a compatible modem. I use the AmbiCom which I purchased at Best Buy (click here)

3. Install the attached files contained on the two following posts. The first file (cfutils.zip) contains the Japanese version of the modem drivers. The second file (cfutilityen.zip) contains the modified English language file that Pelaca has spent many hours on.

4. After installation, perform a Soft Reset of your NX by pressing the small button on the back of your unit.

5. Locate and execute the new program "CF Utility" in your launcher (hint: the icon has a picture of a hammer & screwdriver)

6. Insert your new modem into the CF slot on your device. The screen should read:

Brand: CF
Product: 56K Modem JATE

7. Return to your launcher and run your system PREFS utility. Select "Network" in the dropdown menu (upper right).

8. Within Network Preferences tap the dropdown menu next to Service and select the top entry (AT&T). Next, tap the dropdown menu next to Connection and select "Edit Connections".

9. Within "Available Connections" select "New"

10. Within "Edit Connection" replace the name "Custom" with the name of your modem (i.e. AmbiCom, or maybe Pete). Set "Connect to:" to "Modem". Set "Via" to the top setting of "Analog Modem (gibberish)". Tap "Ok" then tap "Done"

11. Now you are back at the "Network Preferences" screen. Replace the service name to your ISP name. Enter your ISP info under "User Name", "Password" & "Phone #". Under the "Connection" setting, select the modem name you entered in step 10 (should be the bottom choice).

12. Connect telephone line (analog) and tap "Connect"

Simple eh?

You have to install... the "CFUtilityen.prc" then the "CFNULLinf.prc", "CFmodeminf.prc" and "CFmodemvdrv.prc"...
In the "cfutilityen.zip" you can found the needed files...
The TDK, KAGA, Billionton are supported by Sony but the Princeton and Ambicom works too...
I'm working on the Xircom now with no success for now...

I have done all of that. I have the drivers and it works for AOL dial up/DSL and can check mail but I have no ability to browse the web with netfront.

I have an Ambicom modem using AOL 3.0 software. After sifting through the accumulated wisdom on ClieSource, I downloaded WebProV as a web browser. After tinkering with the configuration a little, it works great. I sign on to AOL, then leave it on and switch to WebPro. When it opens it automatically connects to the internet through the active AOL connection. Bookmark a few lists of PDA-optimized sites, and you'll be amazed.

Search for the "Best Browser" thread. A link to download WebPro is near the end.

Good luck.
