Anyone having difficulty running DateBk5 on their SJ33? It seems that whenever I go to save a database, it locks the system. Upon resetting the system, I can't use beam, delete, category, or info from the menu without the system immediatley crashing. (Even after totally removing DateBk5!) This problem will not go away until I perform a hard reset.
This is the 3rd time this has happened in 1 week of ownership!! I'm not overclocking, and there are NO hacks running. What the hell is going on here?? Is this normal? Is something wrong with my Clie? Or does DateBk5 just not run properly on the '33?

What release are you using?
I bought datebook5 for my SJ33 about 2 months ago, and have not had any problems at all. But I'm not sure what you are trying to do with it. You talk about saving your database. I never do. Mine uses one that's default named "current". All my datebook entries are saved when I hotsync automaticlly.
You my want to contact pimlico directly about this. Here's their website:

When I was referring to 'saving the database' I simply meant whenever I was done using the application and then go to exit, or return to the launcher. I assume upon exiting DateBk5, it saves all changes or new entries you have made, to the database automatically. This is when it dies.
Then as I mentioned, until I perfom a hard reset (yes all data LOST!) the device does not perform properly.
How many versions of DateBk5 are there? I may not have the latest version. I'm at work at the moment and I will not actually know what version of DB5 I have until I get home and re-sync all my crap again.

Just a guess, but did you use to own a Handspring? Sounds like you have a unique conflict going on, and one possibility is that DB5 is conflicting with some old DateBk+ databases that may have been synced onto your system when you upgraded to your Clie.
Even if it's not that, it definitely sounds like a conflict, so instead of resyncing EVERYTHING, I would change the name of your backup folder on your PC and then do a fresh install of all of your apps and see if that fixes the problem. Since the problem still exists after DB5 is deleted from your device and DB5 is run successfully by millions, I don't think it's the culprit here.

Barry,
Where did you get your copy of DB5? I am a member of a Yahoo group for Pimlico's DateBk, and consistently it has been said that whenever the program crashes pretty bad, the version of DateBk is an illegal one. Check to make sure you download it straight from Pimlico's site (http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/) or from a respected software site like PalmGear (http://www.palmgear.com).
If you're still having problems, you could ask at the Yahoo group mentioned above by clicking this link (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pimlicodatebk/). One gets rather quick responses there, and the author of the program visits that message board fairly frequently.
Hope this helps! :)

Really? I think you're right on track. My buddy with the SJ-20 gave it to me. Knowing him, it was most likely a patched version that he had downloaded from online.
That would definitely explain these horrific crashes I've been having...
Thanks for the info. And thanks for the link!

volt9 - I think you have a patched version of datebk5.
For patched/hacked versions - they either lockup or crash when you try to run it or whilst running it. This is a safeguard that the author has made in datebk and when users come crying foul - he knows it's a patched/hacked version.
I suggest that you do a hard reset (flushing everything out) and loading a copy from Palmgear or Handango or Pimlico and trying it out as an evaluation version. This will confirm whether you have a patched version of datebk5 loaded into the PDA. The evaluation version is a time limited copy (which can be unlocked) and should not crash your SJ20.
If your friend sold it to you - ask if he has the registration code for it. If he doesn't have one, then it is likely a patched version.
Though the license is not transferrable. ie. the license to use the software is on a user / userID basis, not PDA - so you should evaluate it and register it.
