I have a Palm Centro from Verizon & use Palm Desktop by Access version 6.2.2 on Windows XP Version 5.1.2600. 2 days ago the Palm software locked up. After a restart, my calendar info. no longer appears on the desktop software. I tried to recover the data from my Centro by performing a sync, but HotSync locked up & continued to crash each time I tried it. I tried re-loading the latest Palm software onto my laptop, but the results are no different.

After searching various forums, one suggestion is to rename the device, but I am afraid I will lose the data I have on the Centro. Can you recommend another way for me to retrieve the calendar data from my Centro?

Hey,

You could try having the centro over write the desktop and see if that works.

Thanks, but I tried that, and HotSync locks up every time I try. I'm more concerned now about getting the data safely off my Centro before I try anything else, in case the next thing I try causes me to lose what data I have. Any suggestions on how to get the data off the Centro without using HotSync?

Yeah, that is a spooky place to be. If it were on the desktop, it would be fairly easy to make a backup copy of your data. In fact you might want to copy those files anyway, into a new folder named somthing you'll remember like "bad palm data backup". Then you could go into Palm Desktop, and delete the username you have on the desktop. I'd then exit Palm desktop, and hotsync. If the username on your Centro doesn't exist in Palm Desktop, it will add a new user profile on the PC. You could try this approach with another Palm OS device first, if you have an older PDA or smartphone you migrated from.

If you had Resco Backup on your device (do you?) you can back everything onto the card first.

I wonder if you can put Resco onto the card w/o using hotsync. Obviously you can copy files using a card reader. But I'm wondering if the install creates a special file?

Best of Luck!

Thanks for the advice. I backed up what I had on desktop, deleted the username, & did a hard reset. I lost some data, but had manually recreated the most important items. Unfortunately, I did not have Resco Backup on my Centro, but now that I know about its existence, I will get it. At least I will have backup in case I have this issue in the future!
