Archiving Sms Conversations

Has anyone cracked how to preserve old and beloved txt conversations when moving to a new phone? Perhaps as text, or in some way on PC? I've tried cutting and pasting but this exceeds the clipboard memory. I don't want to have the old conversations on my new phone so much as just want to preserve them in some format so that I can read them when I get nostalgic for old friends...!
