Hi all;
I just purchased the wireless lan card and everything seems to work fine with my linksys access point. However, after 5 mins using it, the connection drops and i can't even ping the PDA from my other workstation on the same lan.........any insight?
Config:
- Linksys EtherFast Wireless Access Point + Cable/DSL router with 4 port switch (Model: BEFW11S4)
- Default Config for the access POINT
- Did not use WEP
- Used Static IP address and DNS in my NX network profile
pls help...its driving me crazy...i have tried every single combinations and the connection keeps dropping out after awhile..
thx

Make sure the PowerSaveMode is unchecked in prefs, network, wireless, advanced settings. Speed should pick up too. The reason is the polling it does and is known to cause drop outs.

I've seen this dropoff happen frequently, too both at home with Linksys and at Starbucks. The light on the WL100 continues to flash slowly, but nobody's home - my solution is to just disconnect wifi connection unless I'm using it, then reconnect. This works as my typical usage is only short bursts anyway

I have been running with the Powersavemode box checked and have no problems with Dropping out. I have seen on the threads that it may improve performance so I will uncheck and try it for the next few days.
Any downside to doing this Larry?
Cheers

No, but the PowerSaveMode is sort of a misnomer. It causes the Clie to constantly poll the WAP. It does not really save any power and will slow down speeds or disconnect. It causes drop outs at the fringes and in some cases, you can't even connect. There is no upside to checking it. All the beginners persist in checking it off thinking it's better, when it's just the opposite. I have no clue why Sony ever added it.
It saves power alright, after your disconnected :D!

So, Larry, what's your projected date for hitting 10k posts?

When a station goes to sleep, the AP is supposed to buffer all its packet until it wakes up. When the station wakes up, it polls the AP for all its buffered packets. What happen if the AP buffer overflows would probabily differ from one vendor to another. Perhaps that's why some experience disconnection.
But then, I don't know if you are really disconnected or if the flow control in TCP has wind the transmit rate all the way down due to a lack of response when you are sleeping in PowerSaveMode.
Perhaps the power save buffer has overflown in the AP causing the station to lose packets and the station couldn't response because it never got the packet in the first place!
One would need to do some sniffing to find out what actually happened.
For me... I have no problem using PowerSaveMode, except the round trip PING time increases 10 times.

Basically it's a mixed bag, I can't even connect on either NX Clie here with it checked. I have a Linksys WAP11 connected to a 4-port Linksys Ethernet router. From the one article I had read 6 months ago, most are better off with out it :)
Sometimes I have trouble remembering what I did 5 minutes ago :D!

I have been running with Powersavemode checked and did not see any problems. Recently I have unchecked it and again no issues except slightly quicker. However I did notice that the further I go from the router, the quicker the signal drops. I was getting a better signal with the box checked
Cheers
