Hi there,
My Clie no longer will recognize the memorystick. It beeps when you insert it but it does not see it there.
It was sporadically not seeing the memorystick, but if I put the mp3 player in 'transfer' mode it saw the memorystick again. At least for a while.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Best,
Kevin
Have you try to reformat it? You may try to back it up to PC if the data are important then sort them out which file(s) are still good and worth keeping.

Dan,
Thanks, I tried that to no avail. The Memstick formater doesn't see the stick either.
On Sony's site it says to bring the unit in for repair. Which I am loathe to do because in the Netherlands you haven't to go to the repair center in the middle of nowhere.
Is there a way to reformat the whole O/S on the Clie?
You meant, it used to be able to see stuff in memory stick before, like apps in Palm/Launcher directory or MP3 in Palm/Programs/MSAudio?

Dan,
Exactly. It worked fine for maybe 10 months. Then it started to not see the memorystick. Then if you put it into transfer, it would see the memorystick again.
Now it won't see it at all, though it does make those refreshing beep sounds when you put in a memory stick.
I tried a hard reset and wiping out all the data, like adresses and stuff. But it didn't work.
Any ideas would be appreciated before it goes back to sony.
Thanks,
K

there's a thread on here somewhere about the "paper trick" if you're willing to open up your NR and do it...basically, it consists of opening the back, folding a piece of paper behind the MS slot, which puts just enough pressure on it so that it works again. Search for the thread, see what you find.
Also, have you tried more than one memory stick? Are you sure it's the Clie and not the MS?
That' right. This problem sounds like the typical NR problem that can be fixed with the "paper trick". I've forgotten about that, as I don't own an NR.

You guys are right.
I did the 'press on the C on the back of the Clie', and bingo. Memorystick!
Sony quality?
Ouch.
So it's the paper trick solution.

so far, my NR's done fine (knock...), but I keep that in mind just in case...

I had the problem with the MS not being recognised.
I first tried to add some padding (paper and tape) around the MS to see if this would help. Not a good solution the MS can get stuck in the slot and also I found this solution was not reliable.
I had to remove the back of the Clie and place a thick piece of paper betwen the back cover and the MS card holder/housing (which seems to be made of flexible and thin material which is why this problem occurs after a number of months of use). All is well now.
I have a MS slot on my laptop and this slot is a much tighter fit than the NR70 slot. Again it seems the MS housing on the NR70 has not been well designed. Has anyone looked at the housing in a NX70?
