View Full Version : Hotsync via LAN/WIFI Query

I have been doing a HotSync via a LAN connection and a WIFI connection for sometime and there have been no problems. The desktop uses DHCP to get the IP address etc. A few weeks ago I set the Primary PC to be !! and gave the PC IP address at the time. That worked fine until today when the Hotsync could not find the Primary PC. On checking the IP address had changed and once I entered the new IP address it was fine.

Is there a way to pick up IP address automatically or do you have to specify the IP address specifically?

Thanks

No, but it should be picked up by the Clie during a cradle to PC HotSync, not during a WiFi HS.

I thought it would do but the cradle Hotsync kept failing as well - as soon as I entered the new IP address, the cradle and the wifi hotsync worked! Not sure why? Do not really want to keep changing the IP address on a regular basis

Thanks

Probably it's due to the DCHP. It's a simple fix, set the IP statically (manually) to the highest IP address.

For example, I have my address range set from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.115 for 16 devices. The default was 255 devices. So you can set the PC to the top number as for example 192.168.1.115. If you have all 255 devices enabled like the Linksys that I have, then pick an IP of 192.168.1.254. DCHP usually picks the lowest free IP available, at that's what it does on mine. If you sync your Clie like I do with several different PC's, it would be crazy to figure out what the IP address would be, unless you know beforehand.

Do you set this on the Clie Hotsync i.e. specify the Primary PC address as the highest number in the range?

On my Linksys I have IP range starting from 192.168.1.100 and will allow 50 DHCP users. Should I set the Primary PC address on Clie to be 192.168.1.50? Whenever I do a wirleless Hotsync it should pick the correct IP address?

Cheers

Your close, 192.168.1.149 would be the highest in your case. 192.168.1.100 would be the first or number one.

It should, but if it doesn't then manually add it. That's just the Primary PC address and you have to be able HotSync first. It's just as easy to punch in the numbers :).

I set up the Primary PC address as ...149 and tried to do a Cradle Hotsync. It failed as could find the Primary PC. I know that if I enter the actual IP address it will work.

How did you get over this?

Cheers

It just magically appeared there, I wouldn't sweat it, are you using Win XP?

Enter the IP and be done with it :)

If you set it manually in you PC's network settings, it won't change :)
