Here's an odd one ...
When I install NetFront onto my NX60 from Sony's CD -- it adds a 'netfront installer.prc' file to the clie via hotsync. But when I reset/boot up the clie -- the file can only be found using file explorer -- no program icon or symbolic link of any kind appears in either the normal clie launcher or 'Zlauncher (which is normally my default launcher'.
I can see the netfront installer.prc file, but all I can do is move it around or delete it. The CD finishes the install process so its not as if there is a 'companion' installer running on the PC to configure the app.
Curiously -- I had it running once when I first set up the CLIE. But then I removed it to free up some space on the RAM (deleted it using Zlauncher). Now that I have a MS card, I want to ideally reinstall it, but it seems to not be working correctly. I'm assuming MAYBE there is a file or setting on the clie that thinks that netfront is already (still) installed and hence not running the installer dialog as it is supposed to?
Help!??!?! Thanks --

why do you not simply install it and then use PowerRun to move it to your MS?
This way it is always there and is only in RAM when you launch and really need it...
Hope that helps

I am not having problems moving it to memory stick -- I can do that fine. My problem is -- I cannot install it. When I 'install' it from the Sony CD:
- it adds a file 'netfront installer.prc' -- something like this filename (but definitely with a .prc extension) to my hotsync.
- i hotsync, the clie asks for a restart
- i restart ... and there are NO new applications added to any launcher... whether I use the default SONY CLIE launcher, or zlauncher... i do not see a netfront program link anywhere.
- i CAN see the 'netfront installer.prc' file sitting in my internal memory. But all I can do with this file is move it, copy it, or delete it.
I *had* netfront installed initially. I removed it because I did not have a memory stick available and decided to wait to reinstall it. Now I have both a memory stick and eru-wares driver (and a few CF cards). So I want to go ahead and reinstall it (probably to MS)... but it will not reinstall properly.
Thanks,

you need to have 6 megs of ram free when you install netfront. Once it is installed you can fill up the ram.

I have 7.2 megs free on internal memory -- even WITH the installer on it. It still doesn't show up anywhere...
Unless -- if I copy the installer to memory stick, it shows up in the launcher (then, I have 9.2 megs free on internal memory).
BUT if I run the installer from the memory stick, it just loads, runs a task bar saying 'please wait' then exits -- doing nothing (does not install anything or do anything else).
I don't know what else to do short of wiping the whole thing and starting over, which I don't want to have to do...

I wiped the CLIE clean and reinstalled PALM DESKTOP to wipe out all the old backed up stuff... then reinstalled on a clean system and it worked. What a pain in the A**.
On to the next question -- anyone know how to locate NetFronts database files (cache etc) on MS media? When I move them to the card it ends up rebuilding them on the internal memory when I restart the browser. Bleh...

He-he, great application, isn't it... You need PowerRun to move it to the MS or otherwise it'll be nothing, but a headache for you!

Thanks... powerrun is great for this application. Now I wish it would allow me to allocate a bigger cache/load larger pages since its sitting on a 256 MB card :)

I think you need a minimum of 8 megs available in the RAM. It worked fine for me when I installed the update.

I have a Clie NX70V and removed NetFront when I needed to add other third party apps. I have since reinstalled it onto my Clie. The trick is, and its stated somewhere in the manual, that NetFront must be the first third party software installed on the Clie to get a complete and correct install of the software. I first ran a backup of my entire system, then removed all software except for the factory installed components. Then installed NetFront and finally, pick and choose the software I wanted to reinstall from my backup. I use NetFront via bluetooth to my T68i cellphone daily. It works great! Goodluck.

I installed NetFront long after I installed other applications, and it worked just fine. (And, of course, kudos to PowerRun for happily transferring it to the MS.)

Naw , I've had Netfront on and off 4-5 times. Everytime I've cleared to 6 megs free space and it installs fine. Even newer versions too. It just needs a crap load fo room to unpack itself...

I had a similar problem once too. The problem occurred on my Clie cause I didn't have enough free memory at first. Then I removed some programs, but the first aborted install already left some files on the system. The new installation apparently doesn't overwrite already existing files so it aborts the installation.
The trick is to make sure that you first remove all netfront related files. I had no trouble finding these since they all start with NF3 or look for creator NF3T.
After cleaning up the mess of a failed installation it will install just fine. No need to clear everything off.
Also make sure you get at least the 1.1.35 build. This one works a lot smoother than the original version that comes with the NX60.
I'm really impressed with how good this brower works. There is no browser that comes even remotely close to the NetFront ease of browsing. The ClieSource site is probably the only one giving me any problems (at times), but with the new mobile style even that works fine.

I thought you installed it to Flash ROM?
