What are Shimlogs?

I use Resco Explorer to create backups of my device. When I use it, it sometimes says it skipped the "shimlogs" file in the backup. I have no idea of how important are they, so can any one tell me what are the shimlogs?

I just used FileZ to check out Shim Logs and found the date created and the date modified to be 3/11/06. So it doesn't seem like anything that gets updated very often such as a log file might.
