OK, I just bought an Clie SJ30, and I want to put an Expense program on it. The problem is that I need advice on what to get. There are so many out there...its a little nerve racking (esp. since this is my first clie). Oh and also, its for my personal use, not for business. I basically want it to be able to do the following:
1. track expenses (and categorize them)
2. export to an excel sheet
3. keep track of my (checking/credit card) accounts (from what I input)
4. keep a budget (optional but would be nice)
Any suggestions on software?
I looked at pocket money 3.0 & quik budget... but I don't know if these are exportable. I also tried to download a trial version of budgetbooks 4.0, but I get getting errors.
Thanks a bunch! :)

I posted my information but it said I was not registered, so I logged in again.
In the above post, there is an error... it should be:
"I also tried to download a trial version of budgetbooks 4.0, but I kept getting errors."

For my expenses I use a spreadsheet (I've got Quattro Pro on 1 computer and Excel on another). I set up all the categories and formulas. Nice since I enter as I have the expense or add my mileage to it...calculates everything for me and at the end of the month all I have to do is print it out. I snyc with Documents to Go. Guess you could do most of what you want the same way (not sure how you'd handle the budgeting though).

I've created a spreadsheet in Excel for my expenses too. Works great, and PDA gadgetfreak said, you can set up your own categories and formulas. Also easy to print out.
I will recommend you try my software 'Expense Ez':
http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?prodID=48237
It does all the things that you mentioned, except the budgeting.
You can use the 'Type' field to organize expenses into different categories (gas, lunch, etc), and use the 'categories' feature to set up different accounts.

I use Money Tender, I'm attaching the file for you. It is really a simple program, but works just fine, you try it and see the results. It's free by the way.
(I Also have documents to go, so I could use a spreadsheet, but Money Tender does everything for you. It lets you enter Payee, Amount, select if it is a transfer, deposit or withdrawal, date and a small note. It even remembers payee names.)

You may want to try Splash money.
I use Ultrasoft money because you can sync it with Microsoft money. Before that I used Balancebook which was freeware.

Everyone is AWESOME for trying to help me out!
I actually dl Splash Wallet (trial) which includes SplashID, SplashMoney, SplashPhoto & SplashShopper. So far I LOVE it!...
I'm thinking that I might just buy its...about $40 (USD) for all of them. I think I might have to purchase Microsoft Money because I can't modify Splash Money unless I work on it on my clie.
In case anyone wants to check it out...below is the link to splash. :P

I recently bought Microsoft Money 2003 Deluxe so that I could sync with Ultrasoft Money. Amazon is selling it with two rebates. Here are the links:

What you are describing reminds me of two programs:
1)SplashMoney can be used for budgeting and expense accounts
2)Excel - Most Clie's come with this. You might want to set up the spreadsheet with your expense form before you sync it and then just add the data as you go. This is what I did when I was in Asia for business and it worked out well.

I have used pocket quicken since the first week of having my Clie, and I can honestly say I LOVE it. It is great to put in receipts from the restaurant while I am sitting there and have them sync into Quicken with no issues. It has cut my data entry time sitting in front of the computer down by about 75%, and I always have my account balances with me, so I know if purchasing that new piece of computer hardware on the shelf will overdraw me or not.
I am not using all the functions of Pocket Quicken, but I did buy it after three days of using the trial version. Very worth it if you use Quicken.

I've used Pocket Quicken for over a year now and it is great! I've had it on two PDAs and it has worked flawlessly. It really can save you tons of time.
You can even set up different accounts within Quicken and handle expense reports or anything else.

Marcus,
Email biblord (biblord@hotmail.com) and he will email you the ZIP for Money Tender. I installed it on my Clié and I like it. It is freeware so it does not have all the bells and whistles of Splash Money but it is sufficient for my needs.

I wrote my own expense-tracking database in (ThinkDB) SmartList to Go (been using it 3+ years). SmartList is very flexible, and quite easy to program. You might want to consider writing your own. You'll get exactly what you want that way!

From reading all of your replies, I held off on purchasing Splash Money, but I did get Microsoft Money. I don't think that SpashMoney sync's as well as I wanted, so I might dump it and try a trial version of Ultra Money.
As for the quicken program, I already have Microsoft Money so I don't think I will use that one.
Also, the financial assistant in Money magazine...I haven't heard anything about it....sorry
I let you guys know what I finally purchase.:p

You are talking about checkMoney here. It perfectly exchanges data with Excel, both for import and export, as well as exports your handheld reports to excel. I have not seen the budgeting feature on this but it is loaded with so many features. I have been using it for a month or so myself

No doubt, checkmoney is one of many applications on my pda with good track record. Did any one use the latest kinoma player?
