They're already out there and uncovering some very simple methods to add functionality and apps. It invloves Nintendo Contra . This Pre platform is really cool. Wish I had one now.

This site is really nice. I have root access on my Pre and got the ability to add new pages on the launcher working. Looks like some exciting hacking is ahead.

If you know Contra cheat codes, I suggest you look into the Pre further. Looks like the Pre guys have a good sense of humor and a desire to make this device work for the masses.

Hackers are warned not to hack Pre for tethering:

Since the new IPhone will be able to tether I suppose Palm also is waiting for the OK to allow this feature.

Lol I still have that contra code memorized. Thats awesome to see it in there, though I'm not going into the hack yet. Nice modifications though with the more pages and call timer in the call log. I just want me a nice money managment app, splash money or give me docs 2 go and I'll use excel. I don't want to carry my ipod just to keep track of my money. :(

Why do wireless companies care about tethering or even charge more money to your plan if you get it through them? I mean, you are paying for the data usage already. What does it matter if that same throughput is coming in and going out of the phone or your netbook? They are still getting their money for their legitimate data usage. It's all about money, isn't it...? {sigh}

Think about it, since ATT offers DSL they would rather you get that than to tether your computer to a handheld. Their ideal customer would be the occassional e-mail user...

Yes, but if I had a choice of tethering at 3G speeds or my FIOS, I am going to choose the FIOS connection. But if I am at a hotel or traveling or in a park... I would like to connect anywhere/anytime though it may not be as fast as being at home on my FIOS.

I don't think there is necessarily a conflict, IMHO.
