View Full Version : 16 Gig card going south?

Ignorant question here:I have what could be a potential problem and was wondering if anyone has any ideas. I've been having a field day loading up my TX with music and trialing tones of software now that I have Dimitry's SDHC driver and a SanDisk extreme III 16 gig card.. Just recently though I've noticed that one of my NVBackup sets was useless. This was followed by my Docs to Go Word not being accessible(PDF and Powerpoint still worked). Also some of the programs I have as shortcuts made by ZLauncher were coming up with a message saying the file was no longer available. All this time I would go ahead and reinstall whatever program file was problematic and then everything would be fine with that application. The only reason I'm leaning towards file corruption is that I make complete backups of my card on the computer. When I was trying to update the backup on my PC these particular files would not be copied and the backup would be terminated with the message that that file was corrupt. More questions would be: Does Zlauncher have a limit of shortcuts before it can't handle anymore and then it just starts to cause problems when it closes a program and sends it back to the card? Also, because the SDHC driver breaks the card into 4 Gig partitions..does this cause a potential problem if you have just reached the limit of a 4 gig partition but the program takes up more space and may overlap into the other partition? Forgive me if these questions seem ignorant or too long but my curiosity gets the best of me

chkdsk.exe /f <drive letter>
on that card.

sdhc driver does not break card into any partitions

PalmSole, try running Resco Explorer's (http://www.handango.com/catalog/ProductDetails.jsp?storeId=2218&deviceId=801&platformId=1&productId=130723&sectionId=0) "Check Card" tool?

I've been having similar weird results (http://www.1src.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1062263&postcount=33) with my 8GB Kingston. Resco told me there were "truncated entries" or some such error. The problem seems to occur when data is written to the card. Directories which are only read from don't seem to suffer this issue.

I have encountered similar issue with PowerSDHC driver. When I overclock my LD files on SDHC card become corrupt and the only way of recovery is via chkdsk command in Windows. If the CPU clock is normal then no issue is present.

Hope this helps someone.

@ Phreak I'll try to rule this out when I get back to my computer.

@ Dmitry My confusion. I meant to say that the OS can only see the card as 4Gigs?

@araj This sounds exactly like my problem with NVBackup. I also have problems erasing the corrupt files. It seems like only my computer will erase them but then at other times only Rescoe explorer will erase them. I'll try the checkdisc option( had no idea that existed).

Thank you all for your responses. If I learn anything new I'll be sure to share it here.

What do you use to overclock the LD?

I tried it with Lightspeed 2.0 and Warpspeed trial version downloaded from PalmPowerUps with the same results.

Besides this issue there are also other weird things. E.g. speed of SD and CF cards are not corresponding with the bus clock and Speedy reports lower frequency than with normal, i.e. non-overclocked CPU even with 520 MHz set in Warpspeed.

I use only bus speed increase. No change of multiplier settings.

I underclock/overclock my TX with WarpSpeed. But surely there's no way Dmitry's own products will interfere with each other? I was guessing maybe FontSmoother or myKbd or maybe the extended memo application was unhappy with PowerSDHC.

I use none of these applications. But some interference with other software is possible. My suspicion concerns identification of CPU type, which may be wrong with my LD. I know that this sounds weird as LD is among supported HW for Warpspeed but the results I obtain by overclocking are not normal. Even with normal frequency and Warpspeed activated Speedy reports lower frequency than without overclocking software.

cheers killinghawk. That helps narrow down the list of culprits.

IIRC, There were other reports of problems with Warpspeed and PowerSDHC. Dmitry would know.

I have just downloaded latest version of PXA Clocker and everything looks OK.

The problem was in wrong identification of CPU in Warpspeed and Lightspeed v2.0.

With PXA Clocker LD works like charm.

Why is there a wrong identification of CPU in Warpspeed? What does that mean??

there isn't. OP is making stuff up. My LD and LD both run warspeed since months before it was publicly released.

he probably misconfigured it and blames the product for that.

What do you mean by "misconfiguration"?

I just tried PXA Clocker (with the same configuration) and everything works. What could I misconfigure if one program works and other not.

Surely there can be a software incompatibility or other problem which I do not know but PXA Clocker solved it.

there is no SAME configuration since there are settings not exposed to th eUI that PXAClocker and warpspeed set differently

And do you have any idea what could I set better in Warpspeed to achieve the same result as with PXA Clocker?

The only change I have done was increase of bus speed in both PXA Clocker and Warpspeed.

What else should be configured in Warpspeed to obtain the same result as with PXA Clocker?
