Hi all! I've been a long time Palm user, going way back to my original Palm Professional. I've always been a huge fan of palm, especially since my only *real* experience is with a Jornada 680, while I enjoyed that device, it is now for sale (quick plug!). I also had a Palm III, Palm V, Palm M515 most recently....

But I found an open box NX-60 from best buy for 250 + 49.99 warr. +tax = $33X.00, it has very minor surface damage, and the best buy PSP gives me back my orig 250 if I break it.

I also found one on ebay, for $300 with a PCMCIA sony wifi card (yes I know, I'm looking for a WL100), that includes shipping. I have a casio exilim ex-s2 so I'm not too worried about the lack of a camera.

My concern rests more along these lines, are there any service plans you can get from 3rd parties or the like? I'm very nervous about the screen, never had any problems with any of my other palms, but I have a funny feeling about this one. (except my Palm Pro which I had to open to reconnect the ribbon cable for the screen constantly)

Opinions?

Slippy/Jonathan

Edit: Other questions. Can AIM run in the background? I've heard it can.
Any difference in speed between Sony and Lexar/Sandisk MS? (I have some CF and SD mem, gotta get a CF adapter and the Eruware driver....)

Comp USA I think has the best plan for coverage and trade up. Obviously it's not cheap. Anthing else is a hit or miss proposition. My understanding is you don't have to purchase the unit from them, just demonstrate that it's functional.

He he, been there, done that :)!

Enjoy your new unit :) !!

Larry, what is Comp USA's return policy? Do you need to have the unit not working before they replace it?

No, I don't think so, because they have a one shot trade up policy. Never used it myself, only remember the many discussions about it here on ClieSource. From my understanding, when you upgrade to a new unit, then you pay for the warranty again if you want to keep the same coverage. It always pays to read the fine print and never just accept the saleperson's word.

OUCH!!! Pay after each upgrade? Yekk... aren't they $99 each?

I've got the Best Buy upgrade plan... err... protection plan. Best $70 I think I've spent. I think it's very helpful in case my NX ever decides to take a nose dive into a mysterious sink filled with water and not taken out for several days.

"Oh the humanity, Mr. Best Buy sales clerk! My NX! Dead! What's that you say? NX100, eh? Well, I guess it'll have to do..."

(Sorry, but I've been burned by Best Buy many times in the past. It's only fair that I get to give them the screw job once in my life. :D )

Yes, it does. I've tested it. You can just go back into the AIM program to answer/continue your IMs. But I haven't been IMed out of the program yet, so I don't know if it alerts you or not.

On that same note, I'm concerned that I won't get an AIM upgrade for free if/when it comes out, since they don't give you a registration number when you buy it. Considering that every OTHER version of AIM is free except the handheld one. grrrr...

I've noticed that in the handheld world alot. Programs that are normally free, end up being a decent chunk of change. Hey if we were all programmers.......and the world were open source....

NAHHHHHHHH.....
