Hallo all,

I'm pretty new in the PDA clie world, and I have a doubt that maybe someone can answer here.

I just bought the Clie NZ90, and starting to explore all its capabilities. It happens that when I want to transfer a movie (or a sequence) into my NZ90 with the Image converter software, I will get no more than 4.5 Mb files MQV files.

I have been reading in the forums to see if someone has the same problem, but I could not find anything. I checked also some nice links that appear here to convert movies for the clie, but not any mention to any lenght limit for MQV files.

I tried in the three possible ways (changing the settings to high quality, standard, or long) and also I have tried with different source files with different lenghts.

At the end the same result... I can not get a longer movie than 1:09 seconds (with sizes from 4.1 Mb to 4.5 Mb)

Please... any clue?????

How much space do you have left in your memory stick?

In the Settings, try to output the video to your hardrive, instead of storing it directly to your memory stick.

Hi Reggie,

Thanks for your feedback. To your questions:

1) I do have more than enough space in my MS. Indeed, something like 110 MB were free.

2) I haven't tried that option, but I will and let you know the outcome.

I've been all day long reading about how to convert the movies for the clie. Anyhow, nobody seems to have experienced such a problem (weird). I can only thing that maybe I should use TMPGE to process the file first, and then use the IC...

However, I wonder why I got a perfect quality piece of movie, with perfect quality sound, but limited to 1:09 min... I tried with different file formats, and different codecs... but the same!

I'll play around again to see what can I found...but still if someone has any new ideas, I'll check later on, and post the results.

Greetz,

Jose

BTW, I am extremly happy with my NZ90. Ok, ok...yes, it's a little bit to heavy/big.... but, hey, I guess you can't find in the market a 2M pix Camera with autofocus and flash smaller than the one integrated in the NZ90. Only regret SONY policy regarding the FC

As I know that Image Converter has a limit for a single file output (up to 128MB, even you use MSPro), it will seperate video into several files.

I've tried to convert a movie , it was seperated to 4 files. I think you better to check QuickTime installation first, as Image Converter uses QT for video processing. Try to re-install QuickTime 6...

And what is the file format you tried to convert? Try to use a simple MPEG file to test first.

you should try Reggie's suggestion on converting the *.MQV to your harddrive first & double check the file size. Then also as suggested by Jackho, you can try and play the video off your HDD to see how it behaves.

I have a practice of double checking my edited videos (*.MQV format) by playing them off my HDD first using QuickTime. Also you might want to try playing your video clip (before ImageConverter) to see if there's anything wrong with the original clip itself. I run into problems like this sometimes, where the problem was actually with the original video file. :D

oh, as I was mentioning about the original video file, if there's a problem or some glitches with it. Then ImageConverter would still convert but just automatically cut off at that point therefore might be causing the problem you're encountering. Hope this helps solves your problem.

You can check the source file quality in virtualdub. It will tell you if the movie has bad frames or not. I think you can correct the file too. My guess is it there's something wrong with the source clip or software used to make it. Virtualdub is free.

oh yeah, why didn't I thought about that, I agree with mrbjg4 on the VirtualDub, afterall, VirtualDub made life alot easier with dealing with video, least to me. :D

Hallo All,

Yesterday afternoon I investigate, and I found out what happened.
Basically I did more or less what Eddy and mrbjg4 has suggested here. The converted file was the same size on my HDD (+- 4.5 MB), so obviously something went wrong when converting.

When I first tried to make the conversion, I just searched on my HDD for old movies in Mpg to avoid the long process of converting my AVI or DIVx files first into mpg, and then go directly to use the IC (Image converter).

Well, it happens that for some reason the extension of my files was mpg, yes, but when I check at the codec used on the same, was not Mpg, but Mpeg-4 (pfffff. Btw, it took me long to find a way to check the original codec, since I was using EO Video, and if you change the extension of your file, for example from avi to mpg, and then check again the properties on EOvideo, it will tell you it is a different file format :) But today I read the nice suggestion from our forum pals to use VirtualDub... GREAT!! It works perfectly...yesterday I could have save some minutes...)

Well, anyway, the point is that I just tried to convert a Mpeg-4 file into the clie format using IC, without first de-compressing the Mpeg-4 file to mpeg1. The IC did not find anything wrong, and not even a warning message is shown. It just start to convert the file, as if it was a mpeg1. For some reason, it just convert up to 1 min and 9 seconds... I tried again with some other files with identical result...hehehe, I even thought it is a good method (very quick) to create summaries or shorts of some of my files to be a kind of an index...

So that was all afterwards... a wrong source file. (the weird thing is that start to work, and gave a quite nice output)

I have found very interesting this site www.dvdrhelp.com for all kind of info about how to use some programs, and how to check codecs, etc, etc,

Finally, sorry for the long post, and thanks to the folks that have tried to help (Eddy, mrbjg4, reggie and jackho)

Greetz, and c u around here !
