What am I doing wrong?
I got a fat 512 Stick and loaded up with great mp3's and data, etc. My problem is with videos, movies. I try tons of different videos with image converter. It seems that mostly every movie I convert and then try on the clie hangs (it just freezes and the location bar goes from the beginning to end, which then is fixed by a soft reset, as nothing else stops it).
So can someone help me successfully watch videos on my clie?
I love the unit, but this shouldn't be.
Thanks alot for any help

hi pablo,

use the search function, there a few threads that are *really* helpful on how to convert movies to watch them on your clie. there are a few guys who already posted step by step instructions which are pretty comprehensive. I managed to convert a 'friends' series from DVD within a hour! I am *so* happy with my new TG50! ;)

I would point you to the right thread but I got to run..

Hope this helps anyhow.

cosffm, what did you use to convert the friends dvd to clips for the TG50? How big are clips of each episode?

cosFFM, I looked and looked and appartenly, I'm not the only person with a problem like this.
I would Love to carry around an spidoe or 2 or Trigun, but I use the converter and upload it, then bang! it crashes and the location bar of the player is going from start to end, start to end.
I hope this can be fixed.
Thanks

hi porter,

I used DVDx to rip the episode from DVD to my hard drive. That file was about 225 MB big. Than I ran that file through Image Converter and chose my harddrive as saving location. This compressed the episode to about 25 MB for 22 minutes worth of film (BUT I had the settings on 'longplay' in Image Converter). And that file I sent to a memorystick with a cardreader.

Instead of saving it first on your hard drive Image Converter lets you save the file directly on your memory stick (activate MS Import on your Clie) but that takes quite a bit longer before the transfer is done. Also with saving it on your PC you can archive the file or burn it on a CD in case you might want to watch it again someday.

This was a test run. After that I did the same thing with 100 min movie. After running it through DVDx it was a huge 1 GB, but Image Converter trimmed it to about 80 MB. It will also split the file if it'll be bigger than 128 MB. The DVD to PC conversion took pretty long, about 2,5 hours though.

I ran into a few problems the first time but everything was answered in this fabulous thread I just can't seem to find right now.. ;-) sorry.

If you can't find the threads or urls for DVDx (but there are other ways, too), post & I'll have look tomorrow. Still got some stuff to do tonight.

hi pablo,

I don't know, the guy who made it run using DVDx said to make sure what kind of settings one has to change in order to make it work. I really don't know what I did, I just followed his instructions 1 by 1. But maybe if you use a file with different settings you'll have these problems. Do I make sense?
You wrote that you had a bunch of movies and that these do not work. You might want to try converting a new one from scratch following his instructions and see what happens.

The crashes and resets with Image converter are usually caused by sound compatability problems. The source file is the problem. The sound must be in a format compatable with quicktime (version 6 I think). If the sound format is incompatible, the source must be reformatted with a tool such as virtualdub. There are many posts about this process in NX and video forums. Once you get the system down, the videos are terrific. There is a tool called kinoma producer ($) which can reformat your video easier, but with lower quality results. Virtualdub is free software.

I think watching movies on a 320x320 TG50 screen is SUCKAGE itself. I haven't found any movies worth putting on my CLIE. TO me the screen is too tiny to make movie watching bearable.

For movies, I'd have to go with a 320x480 NX70 thank you very much. =)

quick tip: use tmpgenc to encode your movies to mpeg and after that you can use the image converter. works fine for me...

From your experience(s), which is more intuitive/better output - Clie Movie software, or Kinoma Producer?

Actually I find the TG50's screen size fine for movie viewing Yoyo. I tried watching a movie on an NZ90 and I wasn't thoroughly impressed. It's nice to see it bigger but honestly I don't care much.

I'm usually off in docstogo typing anyways...

Guys thanks for your input. I managed to get it all working. If anyone else is having this kind of trouble try this....
Get virtualdub (free!!), open your movie clip in that, then select the divx codec (I use slow motion 4), also make sure you set video and audio to direct stream processing, then save avi as...
Once that's done, export to your clie and viola! Movies 2 GO!
Thanks guys 1ce again. Pablo
