I'm sure I've seen this problem before, but I can't find it. I just upgraded to windows XP and now I can't hotsync. I reinstalled the software, and nothing. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Some models of CLIE, the 610N for example, needed an updated Desktop from Sony website to work. In my case, the cradle was not being recognized.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I have the NR70V. No updates should be necessary, but I checked anyway and there aren't any. This happened to me once before with Windows 98se and I can't remember what I did to get things syncing again.
Medcat99, check this:

You might also find other updates for your Clie there too. :)

This seems to be a common issue with XP upgrades. Sony claims to have no fix for it, but they are aware of the issue.

So it is only when a computer was running another Win version and then an upgrade was applied over the previous version?

I find it happens when you hotsync on a previous version of Windows (95/98) then go try to hotsync under XP/2000. I always get a device not recognized when I did this.
The same thing happened to me when I upgraded from Win 98 to Win XP. I tried to force load the USB driver when it said that this is not Windows XP logo certified (or something), but it still didn't work.
I see this posting is dated, but does anyone have any updates?

I just upgraded from Win2K to WinXP, and now can't sync to my USB cradle. Any more info on this problem?

I experienced the same problem also and have found quite a few threads on this subject. So far nothing has worked. To make matters worse on one of the PCs I sync with my father also syncs an old visor deluxe I gave him and neither can sync. Strange thing is I don't have any problems with Win 2K at work just the Win XP Pro at home.
Here are some of the threads I have read through already:

I don't think it matters if a newer version of the OS is applied over an older version. My Win XP was a fresh install and I am still having problems. What was said before about syncing on a 98 machine and then a Win 2K/Win XP machine may have some merit but I don't think that is what the problem is in my case because I synced between two PCs running 98 SE and Win 2K and never had these problems until I got Win XP on a new PC.

Well, I was able to get the system to sync, but I had to do a fresh install of WinXP and all my Palm apps. I haven't even finished installing the apps yet. Darn MS upgrades!
I finally was able to fix my problem. I couldn't just remove the existing Palm Desktop (disappeared from add/remove programs listing and no "uninstall palm desktop" program) I ended up installing my desktop program over the existing palm program and it worked.
Strange...

I couldn't simple reinstall the desktop, so I had to do a complete install of XP. However, I was having some other issues that weren't related to my PDA, so I felt a fresh start was best. I find that MS upgrades often do not work well.
