View Full Version : My New TH55

I've a few questions regarding my new TH55:

- I'm having problems with the graffiti area. It is up (shown) automatically when opening Bonsai, even though the option is checked to hide it. In DateBk6, the menus at the bottom of the screen disappear sometimes when the graffiti area is hidden, but shows up fine when it is up. Any ideas why this is happening?

- When I try to use Netfront it causes the device to do a soft reset. What could cause that? I'm a Netfront rookie, please point me in the right direction!

- Does anyone have any of those fillers for the flip cover gaps? I took my flip cover off and the gaps do not look nice. Or is there a good alternate solution for filling the gaps?

Thanks!

... one more question - anyone have experience on how to modify the NX cradle to fit the TH55?

Thanks!

To mod NX cradle for TH, you need to remove the clear plastic plate as follows:
1. Unscrew the 4 screws on the back,
2. Remove the back chrome plate frame,
3. Unscrew 2 screws for the hotsync connector,
4. Remove the hotsync connector for easy access to the bottom of clear plate edge,
5. Snap off the bottom clear plate edge and remove the plate,
6. Reinstall the hotsync connector and the chrome plate.

The Brando fillers are called Cap Go Go.

Sometimes you can prevent a soft reset in Netfront by clearing the cache (and cookies?) before you connect. I'm not sure what's going on in the background that makes it happen, but I usually clear both.

The device worked fine when I bought it from DanT. But I had to do a hard reset and install everything fresh. I never got it to connect after that - there was and is nothing in the cache, no cookies.

Does it require a certain kind of connection - like WEP? Will it work with more secure and newer types?

Thanks!

Thanks! I did all that, but it still doesn't sit flat against the frame. It looks like the hotsync connector is mounted a smidge to close to the frame, making it not sit flush. It makes the whole thing a little 'bouncy' in the cradle. Oh well.

There is a Netfront patch that was available from Sony. I'm not sure if it still is on their site, but you might try SonyClie.org for patches.

If you need a cradle that works for TH55, I also have UC50/s (white), UC600 (black), UC55 (black) for sale. Just PM me.

The graffiti issues went away when I uninstalled the rotation preferences files. I know it should work, but it didn't.

I look for that Sony upgrade now. Thanks.

Did you do the soft reset afterwards?

You would not believe how many times!!
The problem was that DateBk6 would have mysterious disappearing tools bar items along the bottom.

As to Netfront - the update likely fixed it. But according to my son we use something much more modern and secure than WEP. No luck at home, no open networks from the neighbors either.

I also fixed up my EB case I had from my old N610. Works just fine as both units are almost exactly the same size. All I needed to do was to cut a small hole in the side of the case to access the power button.

I use 40/64bit:10figures(HEX) at home. That works fine, fast and secure enough for me. I haven't found any indication of my neighbors trying to piggy back my wifi access (knock on wood)

He probably has it set-up with WAP, which is much tighter security. But the TH-55 can only handle WEP.

As for my home WiFi LAN, I only use WEP. But I also don't broadcast my SSID. And that SSID is one that nooobody is going to figure out on there own. So the biggest weakness in my system would be if I setup someone's laptop to work at the house, and they gave that info to someone who had the ability to crack the WEP encryption key. And if they did all that, they deserve to piggy-back on my High Speed service!
