Just a quick note to let you know that I just created a new Flash program called Pocket SoundBox for the NX/NZ series or any PDA that can run a Flash Player program.
Pocket SoundBox is a simple Flash program that has four sets of sounds (7 each) that play when you tap the images on the screen. The sound sets are: Barnyard Animals
Wild Animals
Sound FX
Weapons
It is available here at PalmGear (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?prodID=49514). The Demo version of Pocket SoundBox has the full Wild Animal seound set, but the other sets are disabled. The Full version has all four sound sets installed. It's VERY inexpensive, and registered users will get any updated versions for free.
The sounds in Pocket SoundBox are ADPCM-encoded to provide good compatibility, good sound quality, and relativly good file size.
And for those so twisted, the Full version includes a "Politically Correct" version that doesn't include the "Weapons" sounds making it more "little kid" friendly.
For the Techies out there, I wrote this entirely using SWiSH v2. I was REALLY surprised at how easy this was to create. I encoded the sounds from .WAV files into ADPCM format. I started with .WAV files, but when I saved them as uncompressed, they sounded excellent, but the resulting files were very, very large. I next tried encoding them using MP3 encoding, and the file size went WAY down, but the sound quality dropped significantly. Also, this required updating the Flash Player's library file on my NX to allow it to play the MP3-encoded Flash file. So, I chose the ADPCM format because it is the most compatible and the file size was a nice compromize between .WAV and MP3.
My plans are to create several other versions with additional sounds. Stay tuned!
Please let me know what you think of Pocket SoundBox!
