I just found out in these pages about Dmitry's custom TX rom (http://www.palmpowerups.com/downloads.php?cat_id=2&rowstart=30). I tried yesterday to "install" it, and everything went smoothly. After the installation, however:

I lost my WiFi icon in the command bar. Wouldn't come back after soft/warm resets. How can I get it back? I saw somewhere in those pages that I would need to use Palm's ESUpdate (http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,kb=PalmSupportKB,t=ooccase,case=obj(47493)) -- but wouldn't that remove TX2?

How do I get back my data/applications? Just restoring from (nv)backup will once again remove TX2 (duh!). So I guess I have to do a *selective* restore. But poor me! *what* to restore? I did try, but my device became unstable as hell!

Actually, I would just need to get back my data. I guess I would need to reinstall my applications manually, since my 2-years old TX has become very unstable in the past few months, and I need to identify the source of my random resets/reset loops... (didn't have any chance there so far, after many attemps. But that's a whole other story).

Normal procedure is to restore everything (SELECTIVE restore). Your data and wifi icon will come back, you do not lose tx2 rom software. But stability will not improve.

Si je comprend bien, I select my latest backup in NVBackup, then I choose "Selective Restore", select "All" and then "Restore". That will not erase TX2? That's what happens when I just choose a plain restore!

As for stability, yes, that's quite another story. In the past week, Reset Doctor reported the following crashes:
(once) "Emul68KMain.c, Line 403, illegal instruction 00E0 at address 00EE1694"
(twice) "Fatal Exception"
(twice) "MemoryMgr.c, Line:4058, NULL handle"
There is a thread (http://1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148350) that refers to that latter error, and the answers seem to imply it is related to alarms.

Anyway. My original post is about TX2 rom. Maybe I should start another thread about my stability issues?

Merci!

If you flashed the TX2 ROM then no restore that you do will cause the loss of that ROM
You can flash it today and restor a 2 minth old backup and it will not "revert" to the ROM image at that time. The only way you can wipe out the ROM update done by TX2 is to re-flash another rom such as the enterprise WIFI update or another available custom rom
When you do a selective restore make sure that you do NOT restore your Prefs - Saved or unsaved.

@rdiheath: If I undestand you correctly, that's what I expected.

Once again, I first did a backup of my device with NVBackup, followed the original instructions to "install" the TX2 Rom, and then do a plain restore of my backup.

And then, no trace of TX2 anymore (back to original background, no NetFront nor any of the other apps bundled with TX2).

Please help!

I now have just TX2 installed, without any other third party app. I recoverred my PIM stuff via hotsync, and I am quite confortable with the idea of reinstalling my favorite apps manually (for the n-th time).

BUT I have network issues:
- I have no wifi icon
- The device won't connect to wifi through e.g. blazer
- Bluethooth doesn't work
- When I try to open Bluetooth, Network or VPN in the preference pannel, I get errors: missing bluetooth components, or network library not there.

I just want to get back my network stuff! I don't care about ESU (except if I'm told I need it).

I should mention my T|X speaks french.

I have backups of pre-TX2 configurations. If somebody could just tell me which network-related files I need to restore?

Okay, just missing WiFi now.

I see that StatusBarlib.prc and AppSlipRotate.prc are present in my device. Maybe they're responsible for my problem?

But I cannot remove them with FileZ, because they're in ROM. Nor can I change the status of the "recyclable" attribute. Any other way to get rid of them?

OK, relax!
The question is that dmitry removed things of another languages than english, so, in a hardreset, if you put english in the first menu, probably your conections will go back.
I had the same problem, instaled the TX2 ROM, selected portuguese and wi-fi had desapeard, so i did another HR and selected english and voí-la, the conections were back and another cool things too!
This update just modifies a part of the TX ROM not the most important, just the overflow that comes to RAM each HR.
The solution is find ESU to get back the original ROM(which comes with french files) plus wi-fi extra things.
I hope that it helps you.

I thought that I read in the original thread that the TX2 Rom worked with non-english versions. But maybe that was the very first version of the TX2, as the second seemed to have brought various issues.

Anyway, I did just what you said: install ESU to get back to the original ROM + extra, make a backup, install TX2, and do a selective restore of the backup. I believe it works now --- at least, wifi is working!

I didn't understand what the overflow is, but I don't believe it is important at this point.

Thanks a lot lvispy! I just hope now my TX will be more stable (read "usable").

You´re welcome!
Well, i think that TX2 ROM has some cool extra appl, but i think that ESU is cleaner and you can get a little bit more stability(and you can install the appl that come with TX2 rom later).
TX2 ROM has a exclusive topic and a user answered that has a tool to change the overflow ROM, i think it´s good, you with your own ROM.

TX ROM has basicly two ROMs, the overflow that tranfers some programs to RAM every hardreset, like Wi-Fi and other that dmitry had put and the Flash ROM that is ''permanetly'' and rare TXes you can change it, has the kernel, PIM appl, etc.

I hope that it helps you help!

Hi there,

well if I would have read this before... I would have tried ... :(
My "WiFi Settings Button" seems to be killed so I can't connect to any WiFi Network ...
haven't tried the bluetooth thing yet ... but searchin' for a original Standard ROM to go backwards.

My T|X is running on German language, which perhaps can excuse my poor english writing ;-) ---

Anybody out there who could give me a hint to get my WiFi back to work?

Greets,

Stefan

Me Again ...

I gave up and swallowed the bitter pill ... nothing left to say...
The ESU updated helped me out of this mess so I've to do some work on installing an editing sw on my device ....
