View Full Version : New laptop, sync won't complete backup

I moved my hotsync for my SJ30 to a another, newer, laptop (W98), and when hotsyncing the sync stops during backup (have yet to create a full, first-use backup). At first I thought it was a specific file, since it always stopped at the same spot. But I moved the old version of the file to the backup directory and it no longer hangs on that file...but now hangs on the NEXT file. So somethings amiss.

All other sync functions work fine, just stops during the backup process. I can cancel the backup on either the laptop or PDA, so it's not freezing the system per se.

Anyone else ever experience this bizarre behavior? There's lots of room everywhere...ram, harddrive, SJ30 ram, etc., so that's not an issue.

Puzzled!

* bump *

Anyone have an idea where to start to troubleshoot this?

GV,

When I transferred my data from my PC to my laptop, I installed the Sony Handheld PIM (Palm 4.0) then installed the newer Palm 4.1 Desktop and hotsync'd, without moving any of my files into the new folders. I just zipped my old records (from the PC) and keep them in the Sony handheld folder just in case.

Did you make sure to install all Palm programs with Hotsync conduits on your laptop. Maybe your missing one?

I installed fresh (4.1 desktop), followed by fresh install of all programs I use that have a sync component. I then reset all settings to "Handheld overwrites Desktop" and synced. Everything worked fine...until I noticed that the process stopped during backup. If I missed a component, I'm not aware of it, but I'll compare the sync components from the work pc to the new laptop.

I did not copy over the old backup directory, but instead thought I'd let the new connection generate a fresh backup. I do a backup at work as well, so it's not an issue of not having protection. But it does mean that whenever I hotsync to the laptop, it does not complete the backup cycle.

It doesn't appear to be specific file related (as in something wrong with the files backing up out of the Clie or laptop HD issue), but something else is definitely preventing the thing from completing.

I am going to install PocketMirrorPro, so maybe that will shed some light on the issue.

I finally was able to complete a sync w/backup last night, but only because I let it run for over two hours! Finally concluded, so I guess the real problem here is a very, very slow USB connection. That's a different animal to pursue, so I'm off to find out why it's so sloooooowwwwww.

I'm having problems with Splash ID I think. The first sync of everyday the sync stops at Splash ID freezes the PDA and the Hotsync conduit on my PC. I go into the task list in my PC close the hotsync program restart it, then soft reset my PDA and it syncs fine I wonder what the problem is.
