View Full Version : Bluetooth networking fails after update

I was a happy camper when I got BT network access from my NZ90 to my PC and beyond working. It required some TCP/IP setup tweaking since I couldn't work with ICS because I use other assigned IP addresses in my LAN. Yet, I got it to work.

Now I upgraded the PC's BT software and suddenly I get PPP timeouts when I try to establish a TCP/IP connection. It looks like the BT layer works but the log-in fails (like before, I left username and password empty). To experiment I would like to disable security for BT networking but that option is not changeable (I'm using XP Pro). The PC receives IP packages but none go out.

Anybody know how I can troubleshoot the setup? How can I see what is failing? Could there suddenly be login restrictions? I can I disable Security, is there some registry flag that needs to be set?

I don't why is and if it makes a difference, but with the old BT software on my PC the BT network adapter was always 'active', with the new version it has an 'X' until I try to establish a a connection. It becomes active when I try to connect and becomes inactive after few seconds when the connection fails (pairing and serial BT access works).

Any hints are highly appreciated.

I haven't resolved the problem yet, but at least I know that I am not alone. I also found out that the "no network cable attached" state is normal for the more recent Bluetooth stack software (by Widcomm). Here's where it has been discussed before: http://www.pocketbuddy.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=643.

For those interested: I use a Tecom dongle (with Broadcom chips) and (more or less succesfully) updated the software using instructions from above mentioned thread and the Billionton software. Editing INF files wasn't necessary.

No if only I weren't stuck when 'signing in'.

Even though I've been only talking to myself in this thread I'd like share the solution, perhaps it helps other people who come accross this problem and who use the forum's search function (greatings to the future!).

I was on the right track. It was negotiation that failed. The Bluetooth LAN access service in recent PC versions want to be talked to. I used the same connection that had been working with the old BLuetooth software on the PC but this time I added commands to the Script!

Here's the script that is needed (I found it while desperately surfing the net for a solution):

Send: CLIENT
Send: CLIENT
Wait For: CLIENTSERVER
End:

And BINGO! - it works! :D

I found this info under http://www.palmzone.net/mobile/bluetooth.htm

Again, I hope this is useful for other people in the future.
