I've updated my Inserter DA (for inserting commonly used text) with the following feature:
The text to insert may contain the following special codes:
\n New line
\t Tab
\D Date
\T Time
\J Julian day
\\ Backslash (\) character

Thank you Alex. :)
I am having problems getting this to work with Blazer on my Treo 650.
I followed the suggestion in the original thread to use the Da launcher name, but for me this will not work perhaps because I use pToolSet to launch my DA's, I do not know.
I have tried using the names Blazer, Web, pToolSet, pDeskAccTool, pToolPrefs but they will not pop up the inserter in Blazer.
Anyone got any ideas please.

Thanks a lot for implementing my new line suggestion. It works great and makes this wonderful tool even more useful.
Cheers.

Ok. I am on a dumb day I know. :D For those of you who can't make it work (took me some minutes to find the problem...), be sure to use the "\" and not the usual "/". :D
Thanks Alex, these are cool additions. :)

Thank you so much!!! Now I can leave SC5 and don't look back. Even better now that I use \D on some texts.
Talking about dates... I found a bug. It seems that Inserter doesn't look on format prefs... I'm brazilian and use D-M-Y format, but Insert keeps inputing M-D-Y format. Any idea?
thanks again

bluefishcfc:
Is Web the only app where this problem occurs? I'll see if I can do something better to detect which app is open.
Isan:
It checks the locale, but not the format prefs. I didn't realize there was a format pref for this. I'll use that instead of the locale in the next version.

Alex,
Web/Blazer is the only app that is important to me where Inserter does not pop up, and where I could stop using SC5 for filling in forms.
I will try other apps tomorrow to see if any others are affected, but they will not be a concern to me, possibly to others though.

I am using Inserter .90
I have noted that the double backslash shows up when you activate the da. I use it for editing ebooks in palm markup language (PML) so have characters such as \i, \c, \t etc. to add to text. In order for it to correctly insert the characters I have added an extra backslash to them (ie. \\i, \\c, \\t)
It does not cause a problem but can look a little confusing when you activate the da and choose from the list.

Alex, another great idea. I love that I can use this in conjunction w/Accessorizer (SUPERB!, it's almost de facto multitasking for PalmOS5), & not have to take resident memory w/SC5!
@ all, I am using Apt to call up MetaDA (thanks again, Alex!) via a press 'n hold on a h/w key, but I have a friend w/a new Centro (like mine) & would like to share this w/him & need some advice on how to get MetaDA & thereby Inserter to work for him...
I've been using a other type of apps to launch DA's for a while & don't even know where to look, or under which terms to search...
@ Alex, I also get crashes when I try to use Accessorizer to pop up over Web/Blazer on my Centro (VZW). I hope this can be overcome; b/c it would mean that I don't have to go back to SC5.
Keep up the good work & TIA,

The Blazer detection problem in Inserter is fixed in 0.91, now posted. Just call it "Web". And while I haven't tested it, it should use the preferred date/time formats.

Thank you Alex. Web works beautifully.
I was however wrong about one thing. There is another app that does not behave quite how I expected.
I want to use inserter to paste my SIM card PIN number. SC5 pastes the 4 figure PIN and the Treo Phone application accepts it properly, but for some reason, using inserter does not work. The PIN is not accepted and I have to put it in manually, which is a pain. Believe it or not, I have to press option 3 times to lock the number pad to the satisfaction of the Phone radio application.
Thanks again for all your work on Inserter.

DAKey or any other DA launcher. My favorite (not surprisingly) is FastLaunch (shareware). :-)

Well, Accessorizer crashes shouldn't affect your use of Inserter. :-)
Are the crashes when the sublaunched app starts, or when it stops?

I can't think of an easier way of launching Inserter than using FastLaunch (or any other DA or app). :)

Alex, thanks for your reply.
I'm using Apt to launch MetaDA & fm there I tap on Inserter & then I get a crash as in reboot... I did a little digging & tried to assign only Inserter to an Apt trigger,& I did notice something in Apt that warned of crashes w/Web app & DA's.
I'm gonna try McPhling & see if that makes it a difference.
Otherwise, I'll have to check back here.
BTW, what is everyone using to launch Inserter while in Web / Blazer ?
Please advise.
TIA,

@technical1
I am using pToolSet to launch Inserter with a button press. It is slightly faster than using Apt, and I have always use it for my DA's. It is configured to launch with a short hold.
I also have pDeskAccTool launch a pop up list of all my DA's or just my favourites with another short hold on another button.

I use FastLaunch on my 700P and myKbd (MetaDA assigned to home button favorites) on my TX. I've never had trouble with DAs crashing in Web with either.

Oh, Alex, I'm very much in need of your expert help.
I discovered that RunDA & DA Launcher do not work on my Centro. I tried Fast Launcher v 1.55 & got a crash. It occured after the phone / radio turned on & then the screen goes white & restart loop.
I assume it has to do with the fact that I am using Initiate Pro 3.63; which I am not willing to do without & which starts right after the phone/radio starts.
All of this, of course, is in context of launching DA's so I can use Inserter, rather than ShortCut5.
To review the bkgd: to run Inserter on my Centro I've been using Apt's h/w key launcher to run MetaDA, & then choose Inserter.
As I've mentioned, the crash & consequent reboot comes when I press Inserter DA within MetaDA....
TIA,
pruss

But could you check if the crash occurs even without Initiate Pro? Also, whether the crash occurs with FastLaunch turned off?

Alex - yes, after hard reset, restoring all but Initiate Pro, & installing FastLaunch, I got the same crash... it doesn't seem to matter if I have FS on w/regular, default settings, or w/advanced (only DA & Opt + Letter triggered launch) - if FL was on, & I then pressed the Home key, I got the endless loop crash - which btw, would not recognize holding the NavUp key while the gas guage was going across the screen w/the orange logo - in an attempt to effect a safe, warm boot.
When FL was NOT enabled, there was no crash upon pressing home key...
I even tried it again w/SkinUI excluding FL, & making sure that the settings for my Fonts4OS5/FontSmoother combo had FL using the default font...
**EDIT** I even tried installing FL after a warm reset, same results.
Hope you can find the cause here, thanks in advance,
**EDIT** all previous instances of FS should have been FL - I guess I was thinking of Fast Start.... but I have to apologize, I really blew that one...

So the crash happens only when both FastLaunch and FontSmoother are on?

Alex,
Major apologies... when I wrote FS, I was thinking FastStart, when in reality it should have been FL for FastLaunch.
Can only say I haven't been well & b/c of this I've been losing sleep...
My prev post should've been all about FL for FastLaunch.
I've edited it to reflect what I should have written in the first place... :o

either way - w/adv checked off or not, once FL enabled & I press Home btn = crash

technical1, have you tried installing a fresh .prc.
It may seem odd, but I recently had inexplicable crashes when launching 1stAid, and so I deleted it and it's prefs and re-installed a fresh copy and it is OK now.
Perhaps you could try that with inserter and FL, or which ever apps may be an issue.

AaaaHAAA!!!
I figured out what the root of my problem was...
[Set Humbling Trumpets = ON]
I am using Apt & as a beta tester, I should have known better that Apt affects the way things start up at least partially insofar as letter presses can launch apps; & in fact when I disabled FL within Apt, I no longer got the crashes; but that is undone by the following...
I did get a lovely msg about how I have to register FL to continue using it...
Oh well. That's the way the software-trial cookie crumbles.... now I won't know if my discovery will do more than prevent crashes i.e. if FL will launch Inserter over my Web app-screen...
Thanks to all for your help; esp. Alex... sorry for the not-so-merry go round. I shoulda gotten it that both FL & Apt do similar functions & shoulda known to disable FL in Apt... but I did mention Apt before... & it is in my sig...

Alex, your suggestion to use CleanStart to help w/my continued issues w/FL solved the problem & now I can get Inserter to work very nicely, so thank you for the 'continuation' of my trial ;-) .
I will now have CS, FL, & most recently Inserter will make working w/shortcuts a pleasure & no memory issues fm SC5 working fm a panel.
Keep up the good work & thanks again for everything.
