PowerRun is not really a launcher, but does a nice job of moving and running apps from the memory stick inside of any launcher. The speed limitation is the transfer rate of the memory stick itself. Apps that have no associated databases, can go directly into the Palm-Launcher folder on the MS without PowerRun ;)

BTW, some apps can only be run from the memory stick by using PowerRun!

Yes, PowerRun is mostly for moving apps to the MS. It CAN launch but it's not a colorful good launcher itself.
LauncherX also can move apps to the MS (so it does the same job than Powerrun) but you MUST create a shortcut (in the internal storage) by LauncherX(this is an option wen you drag a app to the card-gadget) otherwise synchronisation will fail with that app.
After knowing how LauncherX works I could happily erase PowerRun from my Clié.:D

I did try both but went with Powerrun though it cannot be really called a launcher as such; makes it easy to move appls that can be moved to the MS

Hi Lalit,
OK that's your choice. But believe me: you can also move apps to the MS in LauncherX as you can with PowerRun
BELIEVE ME!:o

PowerRun is the only app that can launch NetFront and Picsel from the memory stick. In fact, PowerRun was specifically written so it would run NetFront, saving two megabytes of RAM. One other issue is that LauncherX's support is nonexistent these days!

Agree with Larry - my experience of Powerrun support has been preety good so far! Saving the 2Mb for Netfront which use also helps

Larry - I have 'parked' Netfront on the MS with Powerrun. Am I right in saying that you need to have a sizeable chunk of free space to run it with Powerrun - any idea how much? 1.4mb isn't enough, it just crashes - do I need the whole 2.1mb and a bit more to spare?

Netfront needs at least 2.3 Mb - I run it from MS using Powerrun OK. I have 6.7 Mb RAM free on Handheld and 74 Mb on MS

How much RAM do you have left?

Cheers

Anyone had problems running Java applets on the NX70V?

It is my understanding that only PowerRUN moves all the databases along with the program when you move it to memory stick. So for that you would need PowerRUN. If you only want to move an app, you can use a normal launcher (even the standard launcher can do that)

At the moment, I have 9.1mb free RAM with a 100 or so apps. I also use JackFlash which gives me almost the 5 missing megabytes back :). According to the PowerRun documentation, you need 2.5X the memory to run an app. In real usage though, with 5 or 6 mb free, never had a problem running anything.

Please remember that you may have cache files too. So I would have at least 4mb free RAM minimum.

Yes, that's where PowerRun really shines. For straight apps, the Palm-Launcher folder is sufficient. Apps with associated databases not only work great, but update the databases too. In some instances, it works with HotSync conduits.

Between PowerRun and JackFlash, you open up your memory and if you really want icing on the cake, get the CF driver too :)!

Does anyone know if PowerRun works with Epocrates?

Man, that is one program that takes A LOT of RAM.

Thanks,

O yes, it would be great to move this monster (epocrates) somewhere from RAM.

Thanks guys - my problem is that I normally operate on 1MB of RAM. I guess I'm going to have be a bit more disciplined/invest in JackFlash........

By the way is the NZ as memory-lite as the NX when fully loaded with all the bundled stuff?

Yes it is and it has about 1.0MB less of available Flash ROM too.
