Oh, God, here we go again.  Does anyone give any credence to these unregistered rumor mongers?  I actually do expect a SONY announcement soon, but not because of posts like these.  But then again, if an anonymous poster was to add an impossible wish list of features, that I suppose would add greater credibility.  Guess I'll be selling my T-380 on eBay soon.

Same retoric from two weeks ago...."expect anouncement next week...." Following week....NOTHING. They can keep this up week after week and finally will hit unless something is NEVER released....but we know that won't happen. So they just keep saying "next week" until it finally comes then "say see I told you"

Well, you're partially right and partially wrong. You'll still have some people who make up fake rumors, but it won't be near the magnitude of what it's at right now. The best example of this that I can think of is PIC's comments to news articles. The signal-to-noise ratio was ridiculous with the anonymous posters. Being a registered poster was considered extraordinary. The quality of threads were horrible, many would degrade into petty arguments, and some good topics would get thrown WAY off topic because some spontaneous IMA TEABAG poster wanted to talk about why the Visors suck because they don't have Flash ROM. Once unregistered posters were eliminated, quality of discussions heavily rised. Although quantity went down, quality went way up, and many users are thankful for this. I remember hearing the word "Jesus" several times.

If ClieSource does this, it would make the site all that much better. If an anonymous user really wants to get the word out on a new product, he can always email a news editor anonymously. I mean really, how hard is it to BS a Yahoo account?

Got you! Welcome to Senior Membership! [Mwha hahahaha]
:D

My name has a kinda long story. Nothing with much meaning though. In my mind, Ocell Nuri is actually a character, fictional. I'd like to write a world around him, a book or a game. It is also a sort of nickname for myself. I will go by Chris Ocell, or just Ocell, both in the real world and online. My true name is very very common, and Ocell is a way for me to be unique. It is one of the few names that I can register for everything, and no one else has taken it. Now it seems like everyone has to add numbers to the end of a handle to get it registered. I'm happy to have a name that is truely unique, and at the same time doesn't look like it was forced.

Is it me or is this forum cluttered with the same stuff as this thread?

"ITS COMMING"

"NX6495343 and TG34034 ARE HERE!"

"GOOD NEWS! New NX's double as pizza cutters!"

Sheesh...

EDIT: Looking at the front page, I retract my original statement. THere's actually not a lot. But I could've swore, the whole 2 times I was in this forum that is all I saw.

I wasn't aware that your post count had anything to do with how valuable your opinion is, whether it's under 100 or over 2000.

Anyway, I agree that banning unregistered users will make no difference at all. And, does it really matter if a new clie comes out this week in terms of credibility of this thread? I predict a new one will come out the following week. If not, the week after that. The point is, if you guess enough, you're bound to hit on the date and probably some of the features.

If no one likes these posts, why does everyone read them? I think it's the same reason The National Enquirer sells so many copies. I mean, nobody admits to reading that either, but I'm sure one old lady in Kansas isn't buying all the millions of copies they sell every week. People love rumors and gossip, true or not. I for one don't beleive anything until it's put out by Sony, but I like reading all the speculation.

Homie_S

But if people predict each week that a new device is comming out, does that mean they have to post about it? What you're saying is correct, yes, people will eventually get it right when they 'guess' when a new device is comming out, but that doesn't mean they should post about it.

And I don't believe post count makes an opinion credible/valuable, but I believe being a registered user does.

This is so true.  There are no absolutes, but at PIC it got to the point where it was painful to read the threads and many of us just read the news and maybe the posts of registered users.

I don't think post count translates into clout, but there are many registered users here that I automatically trust on account of their past record of good advice.  Others, I just enjoy on account of their sense of humor (some people just have high post counts because of the undead thread).  Didn't the National Enqirer have a rumor recently new Clies?

I don't feel strongly about not allowing unregistered posts as long as things don't get completely out of hand like they did at PIC.  But, I also don't put any stock in anonymous posts like the one that started this thread.

I agree with the PIC thing. I lurk more or less over there now, but I stopped posting after seeing so many unregistered posters made it seemingly impossible to have intelligent disscussions or on topic Q and A threads.

Did anyone else notice that he/she/it only said that there would be an 'announcement' this week. They did not specify if it would be from Sony, or the man-in-the-moon...if it would be about a new Clie, or about Osama Bin Laden...

So, I would venture to guess that the unregistered poster is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT...There will be an announcement this week...about what and from whom, I don't know...and he/she/it probably doesn't know either...

waiting patiently for my NX100...

I think the anonymity aspect encourages BS posts. It's to easy to hide behind a fence and chucks snowballs at people, make 'em step out in front of the fence and it takes a little more intestinal fortitude.
As far as the rumours, I see it as entertainment. Some of em are obviously BS, some have a hint of truth and some may actually be the real McCoy. I find the "what-if's" fascinating and I don't think it hurts to have consumer desires expressed on a easily surveyed BB. You'd have to be a pretty stupid company to not research here. Something's coming.... Eventually....:D

Am I missing something here?  When the SJ33 came out, we knew a lot about it long before we could buy one.  Why?  Because Sony started selling in Japan before the US.  When the TG50 came out we also had an incling because the Bluetooth FCC registration.  In both cases we couldn't run out and buy one right away anyway.  So if we haven't heard or seen anything with teeth in it yet (no pun intended), it means that even if tommorrow were THE day, it'll still be weeks before you can buy one.

So why is everyone so worked up about rumors of something new?  I say post when you've got something to back it up.  Other wise don't waste our time!

Again, look at the NZ90. No warning at all. They even got the FCC to shut up about the Bluetooth radio until AFTER they announced it at CES, which was a complete shock.

I think the days of Sony releasing products in Japan before the US are numbered. There's a larger market here in the US for them, right? I mean, Sony's marketshare has been doubling every year since they were introduced. By the end of '03, they should have more than 1/4 of all US handheld sales, or 25% if the current projection keeps up. If the economy gets a little better (it won't), sales could be even more. Sonys are great in the high-end, and more high-end items are bought in a prosperous economy. It's still a feat that Sony is in the black and seeing success with luxury products in a down market, even though PDA's are seeing growth every year in volume.

Not entirely true...it had been rumored but nothing specific. It was also pre-sold for 2 months+ So the people that were talking a new device at Best Buy in 2 weeks have always been full of it. If they announce tomorrow it will be a good 6 weeks before you can get your hands on one...
