How fast can YOU whip out your NZ, turn it on, and snap a high res picture? Also, is it possible to do this quickly with one hand?

well..... you can turn on your NZ ... using the Capture button ... that will get the camera 'activated. You also need to ensure you open you lens cover (I wouldn't recommend leaving it open when not in use ... due to dirt and whatnot.
Takes 3-8 seconds for the camera to charge up (depending on who you talk to).... then you can snap your picture.
Depending on the resolution it may take up to 5 seconds to complete writing the picture to your MS.

Anyone know whether writing an image to a Memory Stick PRO is faster ? If so, by how much?

I just timed it 3 times, starting from the apps screen. 8-10 seconds elapse between the initial press of the camera button and the appearance of a live image on the screen.
This makes it impossible to grab quick snapshots. The NX camera, with 1/6 the resolution, is ready to go in < 2 seconds.
Writing to an MS Pro doesn't appear to be noticeably faster.

Def. not nearly as spontaneous as the NX camera. You have to plan ahead a little. Picture quality obviously makes up for this shortfall, IMO...
If you really need to be a "Quickdraw McGraw", a dedicated camera will be faster; however, I have found that it is still possible to camoflage your pic taking activity and get some good candid shots.Just make sure the sounds muted!!!!:)
