View Full Version : Would you have bought a Nova PDA? (no-phone)

With the recent news that Palm will not be making any non-phone Nova devices, I was just wondering if they are right to think that there is no market for them.
I personally would have bought one without a second thought, I like to keep my phone and PDA separate as there are many times when I don't want to be carrying around an expensive looking device when all I need is a simple phone.
Also I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy new year! Lets hope Palm is still around this time next year...

If it was all that many of us hoped a TX/2 would have been, then there is a good chance I would have. I currently have a wonderfully functioning TT3 and two TX's on standby, but my Treo 755p has become my primary device. I'm hoping to replace that with something truly awesome from Palm in 2009!

If the non-phone device had wifi & BT & could run my favorite Palm OS programs, yes, I'd buy one.

Yes I would have. I like not to be interrupted during my time on the PDA. There is a market for PDA's, look at the iPod touch. I know its not marketed as a PDA but it has all the functions of one and the App store has brought all kind of good applications. I bought 3 of them for christmas presents and they all like it. Another good thing about a non-phone is that we don't have to wait forever to get the devices released without the carrier's approval. Besides that, I can't wait to see what Palm has in store in a couple of days. First time I been excited from them in a long while.

I don't think Palm could beat the ITouch browser unless it has BT. The Nintendo WII hit a homerun because of its motion gimmick. So I think with all the leaks that Palm has shielded the Nova with might unveil another great Gimmick.
If no great gimmick then Palm will have to come up with a price that beats ITouch.

I love my LifeDrive with wifi, BT and no phone! Tons of room and a big screen!! My phone, is my phone... a separate gadget... just the way I like it.
So, yes, I would have bought a Nova (non-phone) device if it was being offered. Disappointed now, again. Also, I am currently Verizon. Switching to Pre, for instance, means going to Sprint. :(

I would have bought one (price-dependent, of course - I don't have unlimited funds). It would have to have had a better browsing experience than my LifeDrive, though. The success of the iPod Touch shows there is still a market.

Wait so what about their redesign from the ground up of the cancelled folio. What are they going to use for its OS if it isn't this new one? I don't need another smartphone but reallư would like to replace my T5 with a significantly smaller netbook style PDA. The folio was almost spot on in the size I was looking for. Are they seriously abandoning the one thing that made palm a success? 9-10 years ago their stock was over $360 a share because of the pure PDA (no phone). Who will make a quality PDA and netbook style PDAs that will fill the needs or wants of those who still haven't found anyone else to offer device(s) they like? I really think it would be a big mistake on top of the several big mistakes they have made over the last 5 or so years if they don't make pure PDAs and netbook style PDAs. With blackberry holding over 50% of the smartphone market I simply don't see palm gaining their past glory and even coming close to holding as much of the market as blackberry. I'd like to have some hands on time with the pre and see what it is like. But my honest opinion is if they don't stick with what they were good at, PDAs, they aren't going to be but a fringe device maker like so many othets out there that failed to deliver products that a wide range of people wanted.
