Does anybody know if there is software for the NX that will control an external portable USB cd burning unit (sony MPDAP20U)?

A. This topic has already been covered before.
B. Such a driver is never going to be written for many, many reasons. It is not worth asking for someone to write one.
Alright I'm bored, so:
1. Writing a driver to support many different CDRW drives through USB is very difficult to do for Palm OS. Supporting only one kind would not make sense, since the market would be tiny. This brings us to point..
2. Why would a developer write this? Think about the market. In order to have any sizable market, he'd have to support the majority of USB CDRWs out there. What would people use this for? Battery life would be terrible, and CDs read and ESPECIALLY write (through USB v1) very slowly. Also, someone would have to develop the hardware for converting the NX USB to a CD USB (unless you used the cradle with an existing converter). Think about how large this would be. Cradle/converter, external USB CDRW, and NX. You couldn't use this unless you were sitting down and weren't planning on moving until the CD was done burning. Really, who wants to do this. Never mind, this is useless to go on. It's not going to happen, stop hoping for it, and dont compare it to the CF driver because that had a real market and a real demand. Also the developer would have to write CD burning software for Palm OS. This is an incredible amount of work. How would it be worth it? Think about how many customers this develop would have. Not many at all. And hes not goign to write this for "fun".

I have to agree with iebnn. Even if such an animal were to exist, I wouldn't buy it anyway.
I look forward more to an ultra portable more than a Clie.

Despite the valid points described above, it seems that people here seem to forget what forums are about; to discuss and ask questions and to have an appreciation that different people are at different level of understanding of the technology.
If someone asks a question and gets flamed for doing so whats the point? Either ignore it or offer an explanation. If you want to be an elitist and only deal with people who know all there is to be known start a restricted membership club on yahoo or something.

I offered an explanation. It is not worth it for a developer to spend an enormous amount of time and resources on a project to satisfy the "different level" of technological understanding of just a few people. Things dont happen unless there is a market, especially with such a HUGE project like this.

Thanks. I fully understand the concept of supply and demand. The point is that the unregistered poster asked a question and the response they got was "and don't ask...". A simple "it would be unlikely there would be one developed", would have been more constructive.

Sorry, you're right.

I think a floppy adapter would be much more useful. I know that I've been at computers where I wanted to put files on my clie or take them off and since I'm at school its not like I can install palm desktop or anything. Plus read/write wouldn't be too slow and a floppy drive is much smaller than a CD drive.

Read/write on a floppy is terribly slow. Slower than CD, slower than memory stick, etc. And if you have a cradle/travel cradle with you, just plug it into the computer through USB and dump the files onto the memory stick. The OS should automatically recognize the clie (if you're in ms import) as a removable drive, but maybe only if it's a newer OS.
