I read a week ago or so to try the "any" for conection, I was surprised to see it connect. Don't know who or where but I'm surfing the web. Two questions first any way of finding the connection speed dsl, cable ect.? Second I can't figure out how to email to work, I put everything just like it is on the pc but keep getting a "error check server name or port number"
Thanks this site has been very helpful for me going wireless.

I tried several items for web speed, but was never successful with it, maybe someone else has a link.
The email, whose network are you on? If you are on someone else's network, then if you have a pop3 account, the SMTP won't be recognized. You'll have to contact your ISP and see if they have a work around. There were others, but I don't remember them.

For my PC I have used the following site:
http://www.dslreports.com/stest
I have tried it on the Clie but it does not pick up the Java applet so cannot initiate the test. I am running wireless card in the Clie to connect to broadband router
Will have to chase up the Java issue for the clie
Cheers

C'mon guys.
The "Any" SSID connection doesn't really mean anything.
Using "Any" in the SSID field only get you around the "security by obscurity"
hurdle. (In fact, SSID are usually broadcasted in beacons -- that's why it worked). After the SSID, you will still need to have the right WEP key to get authenticated and associated. Many access points these day let you authenticate without the WEP key in order to support an even high level of security (per packet key mixing instead of a static WEP key). Thus when the CLIE reports that it is connected, you might only be connected in terms of the WLAN but can't get a single TCP/IP packet through.
Of course, if you are lucky enough to come across an insecure WLAN, you can connect with Any SSID + no WEP key !

I'm on the school board commttee of my kid's school and at the last meeting there just out of curiosity I tried my NX60 and set the network profile to 'any' SSID and no WEP key. I immediately got an IP address and was able to get to the web with NetFront.
It goes without saying that the school principal and I discussed wireless security. We've since shut off the broadcasting of the SSID and implemented WEP keys and also MAC address filtering. There's about a dozen PCs on the wireless network, so it isn't a real chore to administer.
So go ahead, see what you can connect to!

Question, Dave:
Where does the Clie' report the IP number that gets assigned?

You can look in the Network Log in network preferences after you connect.
