The 2.0 update is a complete ROM image.

The 3rd party CF card MD replacement is a simple swap and comes pre-loaded, and doubles battery life, and runs much faster, and stays much cooler, and is the best option.

I had the same exact situation. A dead MD on a good LD.

I bought a 4GB CF (SanDisk Extreme III model 004G-A31) and mounted joepagIII´s image found here http://1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147818&page=2 using Winimage. I connected the CF to the LD and it booted wonderfully. Now the LD works better, way faster. It´s probably the best option... took me just 20 minutes or so to write the image to the CF card... excellent way to restore your broken MD.

Another option (more complicated BTW) is to buy a 4GB CF and to follow hackndev instructions and the LD update 2.0 that Josser pointed out to rebuild your LD from scratch. Instructions can be found here http://old.hackndev.com/node/196

GOOD STUFF!!!

The only real power drain comes from the WiFi card, but my battery life is fantabulous.*

*Fantabulous is not a real word, but a combination of fantastic and fabulous. ;)

palmpowerups.com <-- get powerdrive. buy fast large cf card (I have kingston 133x 8gb) and be happy. 70$ to breath new life into your device. I don't even use a stinkin' sd card :)

well... palmpowerups.com will give you a 32gb CF on your lifedrive using PowerDrive (a must have now a days) + you need nuROM to make more stable (to get more dbcache) + PowerSDHC (optional - but HIGLY RECOMMENDED)...

... but first you need to boot your device, thus you need a booting MicroDrive and/or CF.

Dmitry´s sister also sells bootable cards. Get her email here http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141206&page=8&pp=15 (post #120)
