Hi, folk. You all right?

I has posted in Treocentral foruns, but I no solved the problem until now...

Well, the Softick Audio Gateway leave my Treo 680 in looping continuous, and the Hard Reset do not erase RAM files, because when I choice "up", only finish with a simple Soft Reset.

How my Treo have more than one year; and the warranty is gone, there is someway to erase all RAM?

I has tested Soft Reset, Warm Reset, Hard Reset, Zero Out Reset (that not working in this model), bootloader mode (Soft Reset pressing Hotsync Cable button) and nothing, and I don't wanna pay to send my device to Palm only to do this with a serial cable (here in Brazil, they gonna send back only after many weeks)...

Someone can to help me with other solution, like have a electrical scheme, to informe 'where' I can to do a short circuit directly in motherboard, to erase all RAM memory ? ?

Just to people know: the Brazilian Palm told me that the price is close to $ 215.00!!!!!

Thanks in advanced.

You should first set up a password in Security. Then, when you do a hard reset, the RAM is formatted.

By the way, on Dmitri's site PalmPowerups (http://www.palmpowerups.com), there's this little app (http://www.palmpowerups.com/downloads.php?cat_id=2&download_id=23)that does a hard reset.

Thanks for reply; Clie Patra, but I believe that you don't understand...

The Treo do not start!!

Only load the black bar, go to next screen (Palm logo orange) an reset, before to show the 'Access Powered' screen!!!!!

I no have options than to do a 'electrical' reset, because the Treo 680 no have a Bootloader mode...

If there is other suggestion, I really thank...

Ack, started writing a reply, but now I do not have time to finish. Here is was I have so far.

I do not know of anyway to electrically reset the device. However I was wanted to clarify what your device is actually doing.

you could leave the battery out for a couple of hours to see if it lets you get by the loop into a warm reset.

If so do what was explained with the security app.

There are many kind of resets, see below. If the device still doesn't start after a zero-out reset then I would assume the device was faulty.

Resets
## Soft Reset - poke stylus into reset hole.
## Warm Reset - start soft reset and hold up arrow on the 5-way pad. When Palm screen shows, let go.
## Hard Reset - start soft reset and hold down both the up arrow AND the power button. When Palm screen appears, let go of the power, then the up arrow. Andrew.
### Zero-Out Reset

Nicer version with longer text: http://mytreo.net/how-to-guides/resetting-your-palm-device/

A zero out reset will regress a device that has non-volatile memory to its factory-fresh state. When done correctly, it completely rewrites your device's internal memory with zeros and ones, ensuring that any data is expunged. It should be used only if you want all information completely obliterated (example: you're selling your handheld, or you're sending it in for repair, and want to protect your privacy).

1. Read through these instructions before attempting the reset. We made this method of zero out reset extremely awkward to perform, so that it would not happen by accident. You may need the help of a dextrous friend if you find it too difficult to do by yourself.
2. Connect your device to its HotSync cable or cradle. The HotSync cable does not need to be connected to your PC, and it does not need to be connected to power.
3. Press and hold the Power button and UP on the 5-way navigator.
4. While continuing to hold Power and UP, press and hold the HotSync button on the HotSync cable or cradle. As you press HotSync, make sure your other finger doesn't slide to LEFT or RIGHT on the 5-way navigator; it needs to be exactly on UP during the entire process. Although you are pressing the HotSync button, a HotSync operation should not begin.
5. While continuing to hold Power, UP and HotSync, press and release the RESET button on the back panel of your device (where's the reset hole?). This is very difficult to do with only one person; you may wish to hold the stylus in your mouth and use your hands to press Power, UP and HotSync.
6. Release Power, UP and HotSync.
7. If you did this reset correctly, the screen of your device will go blank, and you will not be able to turn it on. The charging LED will not light up, even if it's connected to power. It will appear to be "dead." (any other activity -- such as the Palm OS logo or a rainbow-colored Boot Log screen appearing -- means the reset was performed incorrectly; try again)
8. Your device will appear "dead" for several minutes (up to 10 minutes). During this time, your device's internal memory is being reformatted. If your device doesn't appear "dead" for several minutes with the screen completely blank, the zero out reset was performed incorrectly; try again.
9. After several minutes, your device will "wake up" and the palmOne and Palm Powered logos will appear as if you had performed a hard reset. Eventually, you'll be taken to a series of screens to calibrate the touchscreen and set date & time.
10. If you want your handheld to remain in factory state, stop here. If you want to restore data to your device, follow the steps for recovering after a hard reset (a zero out reset is a special type of hard reset).

People, I really thank for all, but NO ONE THIS RESETs work!!

Serious, I'm not only a advanced user, but really one of most enthusiastic Treos here in Brazil! I did real miracles in many Treos, solve many problems and help everybody that I can.

Do simples or hard resets is part of my routine... but no one work. Serious.

potter & palmandy;

Thanks, but no one of this resets work!! The Treo go to looping without erase RAM...

And the Zero ou reset above is only to Treo 650, to Treo 680 need other procedure, that I cannot to use now, too.

OLD_HATCH;

Thank you for your suggestion, but this don't work because the last Palm OS Devices use Flash Memory, that saves information same without energy.

Well, thanks again to everybody, and I continue accepting suggestions...

I'm afraid you have no options left but to return your unit...

Sometimes, not always you can try 10 or more hard resets in a row, until it works. I did it on some Palms, fortunately, I didn't have to do it recently.

It may not work on NVFS machines though, but you loose nothing by trying.

Hi, folk...

Greek;

After more than 30 Hard Resets in row, the situation is the same... thanks for your suggestion...

Bimbinho - sorree if this is a stupid question, but have you actually tried a zero-out reset? I do not personally have a 680, but it is definitely a fact that the zero-out reset method "for the 650 only" is NOT only for the 650, as it is also the secondary method on the 700p, 755, Centro; and I would think Palm would have to make a way to return the device to factory state, which - since the 680 is an NVFS device - would have to be done through a zero out reset. I would say try plugging the device in with the battery, hold power then up, hold hotsync button, remove battery, unplug, replace battery, and release buttons (I believe in same order of depression).

That said, IIRC it is possible to perform an electrical short circuit on the motherboard, but it requires direct physical access to the motherboard, as well as some other tools (again IIRC - I remember it having been discussed maybe 2 years ago or so tho I honestly do not remember where or by whom, making this probably of little help to you).

Like I said, sorree if this is no help

Guys, forget about resets. This Treo is gone. Send it to Palm so that they refurbish it for new use !

I am sorry that your Treo is not working! :(
I think that the cheapest way is to get a new one on eBay. I think that you can surely get one for 120$. :)
