...and cant decide to open it. Once open i cant return it and i just cant decide between pocket pc and this one. Mind you, i had a nx70 before, loved it but wanted more. Cant decide between ipaq 5450 and this machine.

I do: Listen mp3s and read ebooks most of the time. Playing games too (ipaq has FAR better looking games like AOE etc).
I worry about the battery in the nz90. Size doesnt matter much. But battery life is an issue. But i like the keyboard and screen and...the mobi reader, far better than ms reader.

What should i do?

PS: Can you surf the web over bluetooth in your pc?

I would say OPEN it.

I have had my NZ90 for about 2 months now and have been very happy. I use the camera every couple of days. I find the battery lasts about 6-7 hours on one charge..

I also can surf the inetrnet with Bluetooth. I connect to my computer with bluetooth and can surf, sync and send files.

As for PPC my NZ90 is faster and the new games coming out for OS5 are really impressive. My favorit is Billards and Sluggs. I knew a couple of people with PPC and they are really impressed with my NZ90 and they even wish they had the games I have.

If you main fear is the battery, that was mine too. But I have found that over a month of USE your battery will level out to about 6-7 hours. I never drain my NZ90 in one day. And i use it a couple of hours a day.

Thanks!

I would like to know if you can plug the charger cable directly to the clie. When i return home at night and the battery is drained i am used to plug the cable directly to the pda and read a bit in bed...is it possible with the nz?

How many charges lasts the battery officially?

You can plug the Clie directly into an A/C outlet but you need an adapter sold on sony's web site.

YOu can use the cradle with the NZ90 but it on sits in the cradle.. you reall could not be moving around with it.

As for the battery, it lasts about 21,000 cycles..... That is what I remeber... I could be off. But, just keep in mind... I have had my NZ90 for 2 months now and I charge it ever night.. and right now I am at 34 cycles.

jlbunting- About moving around with the cradle: I put a piece of velcro (Soft piece) on the back of my NZ90, to attach it to the back of my (settle for now until something better comes out) carrying case. I now realize that the velcro serves double duty and produces just enough pressure between the NZ90 and the cradle, to allow the two to remain together despite how you move it. (No velcro on the cradle)

...My two cents.

My former ipaqs didnt last very long. In fact the battery died always early, speaker defect, display dead etc. Id love to own a pda for more than just a year.

What about the flash? How long is it supposed to last?

gruesome- I bought into Circuit City's Two Year Service Plan. They replace defective PDA's during the life of the plan... which can be extended.

Don't know about the life expectancy of the flash.

If you get a problem with the flash ... then i think you have static zapped it. Flash dies after about 1 billion complete write and read cycles.

If you read 16MB of RAM and then write to it on your CLIE 1 billion times - i think the rest of it will wear out first.

Thanks for the comments! I opened it and want to write my impressions here:

1. Everything seems more.."loose" than on the nx70. The hinge from the display turns too smoothly for me, making me worry how long untill it will break.
2. The latch from the AC charger connector is very loose and it seems to pop out of its holder everytime i open it to charge. Afterwards i have to press it into place again...
3. Stylus holder...i knew it isnt perfect but i fear i have to buy spare once soon. Its not secure in there.
4. Many many buttons compared to the nx. I always think, the less gadgets the better...we see.

Short: It looks VERY fragile and since i travel often i am worried something will fall off, or break.

My first impressions so far!

Gruesome,

It's not as fragile as you may think. I've dropped my NZ on carpeted floor and nothing broke! Not sure about the number of buttons. I think it's just about the same. The only difference is probably the buttons on the bottom of the screen for use when it's in tablet mode.

I agree on the stylus being easy to lose. You can always buy spares for like $15.

Have fun setting up the bluetooth to surf via your PDA through your PCs internet connection... It's a pain!

I think he was asking about the light flash for the camera.

That is something I had never thought of. How long do these flashes usually last in cameras?

the unit is far from fragile it sits in my pocket every day at work and I install car stereos for a living so I am not sitting around with it. The other thing is I have a 19 month olsd son who likes to pretend he is bigger than he is and he plays with it and it is still in fine working order. I was worried when I opened it too but not anymore.

Yep, i meant the Camera FLASH. I mean its built-in, so what if you have a replaceable battery but your flash dies after 1000+ uses like a normal camera flash? You had to send it in anyways. Thats what worries me...the flash WILL die before something else in that machine, so what to do then? I think its a HUGE issue.

And for being fragile...maybe i am a bit to picky about the new device, but the nx seemed a bit more polished. The screen was more stable, it would snap in place when flipped recognizable...maybe its just the being "overcareful" with a new toy.
