My wife has been using a Palm IIIx and I just upgraded from my CLIE N610C to a NX60 (Sweeeet!):D. I want to reset the N610C and set it up for her with a new hotsync name and all the datebook and address data from her old IIIx.

Here is the rub! The Palm IIIx can no longer hotsync and she has her datebook and address data on it. I downloaded a program called BeamPro and beamed it to the IIIx.
I would like to transfer the entire datebook and Address data from the IIIx to the Sony Clie N610c, which I will hard reset to clean all old data out of it and give it a new hotsync name. Here are my questions:

1) After I reset, can I just beam the database files from the IIIx to the N610C and have them come up on that device?

2) Which files and how many? Is it simply the “AddressDB” and “DatebookDB” files?

3) Then I figure I can just hotsync the new 610C with “Palm overwrites Desktop” option and be good to go.

I also want to sync both CLIEs on the same computer, but that is probably questions for another post!

Thanks for your help!!

Do you have Outlook? I found the best way is to sync the DateBook, Address, Memo, ToDo List to Outlook first then you can change the username and sync the Outlook to the new username.

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) No. After you hard reset the 610C, the desktop will detect that and automatically overwrite the handheld. Your best bet is to create the new user name on the PC using the Palm/Sony Desktop software, then copy the files you want to put on the 610C to the user directory for the new Hotsync name on the PC before syncing the 610C for the first time under the new user name.
4) See 3) above. All you need is two different user names and everything will work fine.

Thanks, Tanker Bob and DanT...I successfully reset 610 and transfered all of the data. I went into Desktop and created a new hotsync name for the 610 (I don't see where to do that on the actual CLIE itself, so I guess it will transfer after the initial hotsync).

Now though, when I connected the cradle to the USB port and attempte to sync it the computer is not connecting. It is acting as if I should install the CLIE software for it to recognize the 610. However, I have already installed the Sony Desktop and Hotsync manage using the disk that came with my NX-60.

Any suggestions?

Thanks...this is an execellent board and you guys are very helpful.

First, make sure the new user name matches the one that was on the IIIx, otherwise your registered software that depends on the user name won't work.

Are you using the same USB port as the NX60 or a different one? If a different one, make sure that it is enable in the PC's BIOS and that some other app or hardware isn't using it. Are you connecting through a USB hub?

Right click the Hotsync icon in the system tray, select Setup, the Network tab, and check your new user name there as well. Technically doesn't apply in this case, but stranger things have happened. If that doesn't work, try reinstalling the NX60's desktop with both cradles connected.

Tanker Bob,

Thanks again for your quick reply. All is working fine now! I have both the NX-60 and the N610 Hotsyncing on one PC (with different hotsync names, of course).

I first tried your suggestoin of reinstalling the NX Palm Desktop, right over the top of the existing installation. At some point, don't recall when, it pointed me to a patched version on the Sony website that includes patch for older N models on XP, which is what I am running. I downloaded and installed that version. On the first hotsync the hardware wizard looked for and found the driver for USB cradle. So far so good. Have not tried syncing the NX-60 yet, but I mainly sync that one at work with Outlook and only use it here for ms-import and non-pim stuff.

Thanks again and hope this helps someone else who has problems.

Sincerely,

Manny
