View Full Version : LifeDrive still alive

So I found my LifeDrive (a LifeFlash actually) which was idle for about a year.

Having nothing to do last weekend, I decided to charge the LifeDrive up. It had a battery problem -- it couldn't hold a charge for more than a few minutes.

So imagine my surprise after a full charge... the LifeDrive booted up. It still had my old data intact. And amazingly... the battery does not drain as fast now. I played some music and games (Tradewinds and Sudoku) and that drained the battery a bit.

I felt like I opened a time capsule because all of my apps and data were still there just as I left them a year ago.

And now with Powerdrive you can grow your Ram to 1.3gb & put more stuff on it!
Great,no!

I love my LifeDrive and it's hooked up with a 16GB internal flash and has 256MB "RAM" thanks to Dmitry!!!

I don't have a battery problem "yet" and this things runs pretty well. But occasionally it acts freaky. I have some rogue apps or something. I don't know.

Other than that, inspite of all the new technologies out there, I still am amazed about the LD. :)

I believe, thanks to dimitry, that the LifeDrive has far outlasted its projected lifespan. With all of his aftermarket upgrades, I kind of look at my Lifeflash as a hot rod, without all the smelly exhaust.

Mine got first a 16gb adata speedy & now a 8gb sandisk extreme III & it fly with 1.3gb of Ram;speed is amazing + as extra I remove pretty much all garbage from ROM.
No more reset cause by low DBcache!

This is incredible,I even drop my TX.

Does anyone knows why LifeDrive wasn't certified by CE (european agency)? I think that was one of the reasons to abandon its production. Still I am using it for 2 years, bought already second one for my wife and third one for my bro. If one day my unit dies, I will buy another one :) (maybe a new analog of LD but with fully functional linux based system).

That's GREAT hope!
I should start saving write-erase cycles on my first unit to give it a chance of the second life

Ok, after a quick search on these forums, I'm still stymied. What is DGOS beside the obvious (Dimitry's OS)? Is this intended to run on top of PalmOS or replace it? Since its initial (and only?) implementation is the Lifedrive, what advantage is it supposed to offer? Believe me, if it will keep me keep up to date with my legacy Lifeflash, and keep it relevant, I am definitely interested. But I just don't know enough to get excited about DGOS yet. :)

I assume Lead content.

The suspense is going to kill, Dmitry!!

I was only hoping for a NuROM for LD... I know there are apps on my LD that is causing this thing to reset because of low DBCache, but I don't want to do the Linux thing to modify the ROM. (I think there's something messing with my Home button as well).

Would you mind giving us an idea what to hope for with your replacement OS that runs on LD... or even a preview?

ah yes nurom
keep forgetting this
i'll try to get it out tonight

Preview would be hard. my backup killed my kernel sources so i am rewriting it. but that is not too bad.

Well, my LifeFlash is dead after 6 months of happiness, not even PowerDrive saved it from its destiny, video chip got crazy and now LD refuses to start at all. I was hopping to replace it with my TX in the mean time while Palm replace my LD. So sad, TX is not faster enough to play MP3 files through AD2P to my bluetooth earphones.
