I am looking for a good internet site to LEGALLY download films and television programmes on my Palm TX.
These must be suitable for viewing with the TCPMP programme. All advice appreciated.
Thank you

Hello,
My suggestion (what I do):
1) Get your legal movies (in whatever format you can - maybe rent a DVD at the store, or purchase a DVD, a movie in AVI, RMVB or any other format)
2) Download the free Media Coder (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/)
3) Convert the movies with Media COder. Destination format shall be XviD, container AVI, sound MP3 Lame, size 480 x 320, fps ~29.
That's it. Now just copy the new AVI file on to your card and play it with TCPMP.
That's how I have watched several movies on my Palm. Sometimes I hire a DVD at the store but don't have time to watch it at home, so I put it on my TX. I don't think that is ilegal. A whole movie shall be about ~300Mb size using the options mentioned above.
To watch YouTUbe movies, proceed the same way.
Enjoy,
Mickets

Thanks for this. But what file(s) do you add in mediacoder window ? I tried to select video_ts.ifo, but it does not work...

What I do is use a small $20 device that connects between my TV and my laptop. I then set it to record movies. Another app compresses them to work on the TX. This gives you an endless, free supply of movies and anything else that comes on television, and it can be recorded while you are asleep, away from home etc. just like recording with a VCR.

Eh, you better check. I don't think we are allowed (in the US, that is) to rip DVD's legally even if we own them (unlike CDs). In fact, I heard a complaint somewhere that public libraries are not allowed to duplicate their own DVD collections but rather they have to buy a new copy when the DVDs get scratched.

thierry2064: I forgot to mention: for DVDs go to menu Add -> Track and select tour DVD drive.
vovka1965: What? You're not allowed to rip your own DVDs, not even as a backup copy? I don't wan't to start a discussion (and I won't), but I don't agree with that.

As you can see in this link, it is quite controversial in the US. It is not really a question of what is reasonable or what is right/wrong, but of legal precedents..

This sounds interesting. Could you provide details on the device and what compression app you use?

There are a number of devices available. I use one from KWorld. Here's a website with links to a few of the makes:

I also use the software on the above website which does the recording and the compressing, but it is for the Mac. I am sure there must be a multitude of options for Windows. I don't do Windows so I can't name any of them.

I was watching a rented DVD the other day, it seems that some DVDs actually come with a preinstalled ipod version, has anyone else seen this?
