View Full Version : Could SONY be 'masquerading' as Eruware?

Could it possible that the Sony engineers deliberately left the door open on the CF Slot, pump up the excitement of this 'work-around' with Eruware's drivers ..(possibly indirectly creating a rush for NX's and NZ's) ? In reality we do not expect SONY to be interested in such small peanuts, but marketing creativity should not be just about '$ and cents':)

Anyway, after an eventful day of messing around with my Clie apps & CF driver, I dozed off and drifted into dreamland. I was invited to this Masquerade party of CF, SD, MS memory cards .. Throughout the party I was dancing with this CF card (dressed up as Ms Eruware). At the stroke of midnight, holding my breath with excitement I watched Ms Eruware took off her mask and to my 'Shock & Awe', it revealed the slogan.....'It's a SONY!'

Cheers:D

Tell you what though on the same topic, but in a different direction.
Eruware is kind of acting like Sony when it comes to the product updates.
How long does a driver have to be in beta until the people whom have already spent
the $$$ get a copy.
I seem to feel a resembles to Sony when it comes to announcing a update and then
weeks go by with no word.
OS updates, Clie Viewer, Clie Files etc.
I know all the Eruware loyalists will storm out of the wood work, but most of those
also are the beta testers.
We are now over 3 weeks since the beta announcement as to the update.
And still no word to the paying, or should I say there customer base.
This is wrong.
Its wrong when Sony does it, and in my opinion its equally wrong that Eruware has
adopted this poor business practice.
I would rather they not announce to the public that they have a update until they are
willing to send it to there paying customer base.
My opinion for what it is worth.

Don't betas take a while? To, uhm, find bugs?

If I sound scarcastic I don't mean to, just curious. I've honed my skills so well that I can't escape them. :D

i agree with you... not so vehemently, but we paying customers should at least have some communication about when... i've got a lot of different softwares, have gone through a lot of betas, but this is one of the few times that a first update has taken so long without any communication...

In all fairness, I would prefer less hype about a beta version and more quality when it is released. When the driver was in the first beta people were wanting it bugs and all, now that the first version is released you hear complaints about what is wrong with the driver. Okay, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but lets review what actually has come about...Eruware announced a driver to be released and sent the driver for confirmation to Cliesource. Many were in doubt of its existence because there wasn't a driver previously, and if I am not mistaken, since introduced. The beta group had a mole, someone trying to crack the first beta, and they actually released a poor version to some warez website. Beta continued and finally after a month (not sure on this time ) the version was released. Work started on a newer version with ayasin asking (different thread) what everyone thought should be worked on. Okay, the newer version is in beta to a smaller beta group (really can't blame them for this although I think there was a thread where they actually asked the previous testers if they wanted to participate and then went with reply). So, have the new beta group reported any new findings? To the writer ayasin? Perhaps they need to take more time to polish this version, or maybe they encountered other problems, or maybe the driver is at its peak now. It is a driver, apps have to be written to support and work with it, if they aren't there is only so much that can be done from the driver side. They (Eruware) was pretty much in constant contact since the initial release so I doubt (barring health or other problems) that this is going to be something that is going to change. So lets be patient and see what happens. I am sure something will come to light when there is something to COME to light.

I think you may have answered your own question.
Once Sony gets your money for the current model, they spend little effort on updates, instead they spend time on the next model to be released in 6->9 months.
Planned obsolescence.

Around a month ago, EruWare had a lot of pressure. No visibility, no real company, many questioning their credibility, potential competition (remember SoftPocket's promise of a driver) and no revenue.

IMHO: the make-or-break issue for the company is what we will think of them in a month from now.

I also agree, but after the first beta was launched, it was hard to keep it in a bottle.

Members of this BBS kept leaking info and hyping the first beta, and fed into the 'beta members' vs. 'non-beta members' rivalry commented on ad-nausem in the past.

Not surprising, it is happening again !

Astute observation although people got slammed for pointing this out in the past. Seems to be many with the "love it or leave it" attitude who have difficulty with differing opinions.

Now let's see the count is:

They released it too soon, why am I paying for a beta: 676

They should release it sooner, why do I have to wait: 702

They are working on it - I can wait, so far it is ok: 303

I did not actually count all the posts and categorize them - but if someone did it would probably come out to something like this.

You can't pleae everyone.
