I backed up my data folder from my old XP(operating system) to transfer to a new computer that has the Vista (operating system). Upon installing the Tungsten T3 software on my new computer, I copied my backed up folder to the new computer, however all I can view in Calendar is partial repeated items (such as weekly,or annual data)nothing else. No contact or tasks data is viewable either. I can view all memo data without problem.
How should I go about viewing all my Calendar, Contacts and tasks backed up in XP to view in Vista?
Any help would greatly be appreciated. Many thanks. ron

The Backup folder only contains 3rd party apps and data.
Vista has serialized numbers associated for folders in the registry so copying old folder over Vista created folders destroys the OS link to them. You must copy the data from the old folder to the new folder.
The PIM data is in folder Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Memos.

Hi Josser
Thanks for replying so promptly. Am still confused as to how to proceed. When you say “backup folder only contains 3rd party apps & data”, do you mean things like documents to go, photos or other?
I am unclear as to what you mean when you say “ copy data from the old folder to the new folder” in Vista.
The way I’ve been backing up my data in Palm on the XP computer during the past 5 years is as follows:
I go to Palm from “Program files” select the folder that has my last name & first name initial, copy that folder and paste it on my data disk as well as on my desktop.
After installing the Palm software in my new Vista computer, all I did is copy the saved folder with my last name & 1st.name initial from my data disk to the newly installed Palm program by going to “Program files” and pasting my saved folder in Palm.
What does PIM stand for?
Many thanks again, ron

PIM=Personal Information Manager and refers to the 4 PIM apps, Calendar, Contacts, Memos, Tasks.
Do you know the difference between a data file and a folder?
In your username-like folder are the PIM folders, in the PIM folders are your PIM data.
Install Palm software, copy the PIM data files from the OLD BACKUP PIM FOLDERS into the NEW INSTALLED PIM FOLDERS one-at a time, i.e. copy calendar.dat from the old Calendar folder from your backup into the new Calendar folder from installing the Palm software.
This assumes you are still going to use version 4.2 from the install CD and did not download the stripped-down Vista version 6.2 from Access.

Thank you Josser for clarifying my issues.
The version of Palm software I installed on my new computer is 4.1.2 which I originally used with a Visor PDA years ago (prior to upgrading to a Tungsten T3). I was informed that this version was compatible with both models, which has worked out fine on my XP O.S. for more than a year since acquiring the Tungsten T3.
I have tried your suggestion to copy the address.dat and address.bak files into the newly installed PIM folder individually, however I ended up with zero data in my contacts.
I did not attempt to do the same thing with my datebook files because I was concerned that the Datebook.bak file had 766kb of data memory as compared to 132kb in the Datebook.dat, a huge difference.
At this point, I will uninstall and reinstall the Palm software in my new computer and will go ahead and copy the datebook.dat and address.dat files individually as you've indicated.
What will happen If I copied the datebook.bak file only and forego on copying the datebook.dat file? Do you suppose, I will recover my entries in Calendar?
I guess I’ll have to try that after reinstallation and will report the results to you upon completion.
I appreciated your getting back with me, Josser & promise to let you know the results of the reinstallation.
Many thanks, Ron
