680 Battery/charging

I have not seen this specific scenario discussed here yet.
When unplugged the battery symbol does not change back from showing the lightning bolt through the battery.
The red led is flickering randomly very much like an hard disk drive being written to. Turned off the phone, red light is still flickering.

Did you try a soft reset yet?

yes, more than once.

You disabled all stuff that could interfere with the battery or the charging circuitry (like BattMonitor and the like)? If the problem persists, make a full backup, do a hard reset and try again. If it's not OK after a hard reset, it 's definitey hardware related and you should return your phone. If you don't have a backup program, try NVBackup (freeware and excellent).
