Wow Nice ANS. You got a log. :)
BTW Alan, I disagree. I think Palm got the message out about the Treo 800w. Probably not as much as the iPhone 3G or Instinct, they did sell out in some stores I checked. I got the last Treo in a corporate store I checked.
So I think this phone is more popular than you think. I'm telling you, this phone is amazing! It has its shortcomings but its great.
BTW, I like that they released it during iPhone 3G time because I wanted a new phone and now I can dis all the iPhone 3G users.

I think the 800w is only popular among hardcore Windows Mobile and Treo users, unlike the iPhone which is very popular among different level of users. I agree the 800w is one of the best devices that has been released this year. I wonder how the 800w will fare in comparison with HP's iPaq 910c.

Selling out of inventory because of poor logistics isn't something to get excited about. After years of disappointments, Palm is going to have to go a long way to reassure me that they are successfully executing against the product roadmap that we aren't allowed to see.
And if it sounds like I'm a bit cranky with Palm, that is because I am. I really how that they can turn things around in 2009. We have been waiting a *long* time for new, innovative products again.

I have to concede that you are correct about the target markets for the iPhone and the Treo 800w. They are not the same.
Oh, and it was great seeing you at the chat!

I feel bad for those iPhone 3G users. That monthly plan must be killing them. :) LOL.

I've seen the video and I can tell even though I don't have first hand experience on using the 800w, I can tell from the demonstration on launching apps that this phone is just one amazing piece of hardware. Look at the hardware features of this device, it is not the best, but still it was able to outperform devices which has more powerful hardware than the 800w does have.

The responsive of the 800w is just like the responsiveness that I'd seen on the Treo 650, but this time around it was not on Palm OS, but on Windows Mobile. One things that came into my mind, this device is amazing.

The battery life and stylus are the worst features but both can hopefully be replaced in the future.

According to the chat last Saturday, Jeff and Alan, has mentioned that Palm has improved the power consumption capability of the Treo 800w, requiring it to have a lesser capacity battery to save thickness and to improved the form factor. About the stylus, yes it looks cheap compare to the one present on the Treo 650, 680, and the 700 series. Overall using the 5 way navigation button on the Treo I rarely require the use of the stylus, except for games and applications that require constant touching of the screen.
