Hello everyone, first of all, this it's a wonderful forum and thxs to everyone here I've been able to learn about my loved TX more than I ever expected.
Now, the question: the new facebook application by palm it's not available for TX's, just for treo's and centro... Could it be possible to use it in the TX anyway?... I already tried to install the centro version but I'm getting a message telling me that I can't use it...
Any idea?
I would be really thankful since blazer sucks big time displaying pics in the mobile version and it can't load the full version... and opera mini memory shortage it's driving me crazy...
Hope u guys can help me, c-ya!
(by the way, not English native speaker, please forgive my mistakes :P)

Currently if you extract the files the PalmInstaller creates, and put those on your Palm TX, the end result is a hard reset

I didn't get a hard reset. I got a message that said that my device (TX) was not a Centro. I then couldn't use the software. It's unfortunate, since this might be a good app for the TX. I wonder if some adventurous person could bypass the device check routine to see if it actually could work on a TX.

Ah, don't have time for programming because you are writing haiku?
:D
(P.S. Yes I know it is not in "traditional" haiku form, I was making a joke)

It's probably child's play for Dmitry to get around the device check. ;)

It's not just a device check. I know people have gotten around it. I believe it uses Treo-specific libraries and will cause resets on TX. Dmitry would probably have to write a wrapper for Facebook or somethin

which puts the burden of convincing me to do so on those who want it :D

I wouldn't mind it on my TX; really take advantage of the wifi :p though in all honestly, I could go either way

Dmitry, if anyone can do it.... :)
I would love to see this on my LifeDrive. I'm using Facebook a lot more now... within Trillian, Blackberry, and have a few things tied in with it, including my Desktop Wallpaper and Facebook photos (to name one). I would love to be able to manipulate and see stuff in Facebook on my Palm instead of my Blackberry. (I tether my LifeDrive's Bluetooth to my Blackberry for online access).
This would be great to see on both the TX and the LD! :)

I'm definitely interested. They charge an arm and a leg for mobile phone service here in Canada, so I use (the WiFi on) my TX (instead of my 680) as much as possible.
BTW - Installing Facebook on a 680 and then copying the files to the TX will put your TX in a reboot loop. I was finally able to use the trial mode on Palm Insider (thankfully I still had it on my SD card for some reason) to delete the Facebook files. I was mere seconds away from a Hard Reset.

It seems that dmitry it's kinda busy to modify this app right now... anyone else can do it?
BTW... Using Opera Mini 4.1 it's a pretty good replacement... however I guess the app would be faster... anyone has being able to compare speed between fcbk app and accessing through blazer or opera or netfront?

I think it uses the phone libs of the Treo, like the IM app, ...
which puts the burden of convincing me to do so on those who want it :D
lol, we already know that :)

You'd think Palm wouldn't forget about it's non-phone devices which were once Palm's bread and butter! grr!

You're not bread and butter now. You're legacy, and about ready to be relegated to some dusty pages in a history book.
Time to move on.

Also, you are not able to load today's Symbian apps in a 3 year old Nokia. Or a WinMo 6.1 program into a 5.0 version...
You can point Blazer to http://m.facebook.com
Works and shows pretty nice. :)

True, but I know I wouldn't expect it to work on a device not considered current. While Palm may still offer the device, it clearly is out of development.
If Palm.net still worked, I bet I could get on m.facebook.com and have a blast with it. Oh those were the days... *sniff*

I have a Centro as well, but it would be nice to have this running on my TX so I could easily update photo from my digital camera to Facebook when we're on vacation (namely outside the US where by Centro doesn't work).

Did anyone ever get around to tweaking a Facebook ap for TX? I'd sure love to have it.

I access facebook via the Blazer "Palm Mobile Portal/People/Facebook" link.
I joined on my PC and didn't have to go through the regular sign-up process on the Palm TX.
Then I linked to it in "Bookmarks" in Blazer.
Works well----

I've been doing this, except about half a year ago the login seemed to become very temporary: after only a few minutes, or a couple of jumps to other websites, I click for some Facebook page and have to log in again. Which is tedious considering that the password can't be pasted in. And that my TX touchscreen is on its last legs, full of dead and almost dead spots. Clearing cookies doesn't fix this. Any chance there's a workaround?
