I was bored today in a medical class and did a hard reset to see if the backup restore function would work and it didn't (again). I've tried it sveral times after fatal loops and the back has always done a reset after about going through 75% of the restore (this also hapepned on my NR-70). I specifically shut down all running apps including Zlauncher and teal Launcher stuff. Still didn't work.
Any ideas?
Thanks
John

oh wow. thats a bummer. I have never had any trouble from MS backup. try removing your MS and doing a hotsync to restore. give it a try.

That is so sad :( It has worked flawlessly for me.

Man sorry to hear that, I have become very fussy about backups.

For some reason palmjob had a corrupted file in his backup. Hence the reason for multiple backups on several sticks. Then backup the sticks to the hard drive.

Someone here suggested BackupMAN to me.

You can't go wrong with BackupMAN

edit: oops I meant backupman

I also had one failure of MS Backup. I was enough for me and I switched to Backup Man. It worked without problems. I had to restore my palm couple times after hard reset, and every time I would do it is several minutes without problems.

I have tried them all and they all have their shortcomings. Also remember, that NONE of these apps restore everything. Examples are system patch files, WL100 drivers, MS Pro drivers, and possibly Flash Enable. You need to keep copies of these on your memory stick.

Best thing about BackupBuddy by BlueNomad is that you can set a time on which your Clie backs up all info to your memstick.

Mine is 5:55 am :)

BackUpMan is also schedule-able. It works flawlessly. I've actually just hard-reset, just o watch it go!

Not for me. MSBackup backs up everything including the WL100 drivers. I just had to restore last week after toying around with some stuff after a hard reset. Everything was exactly the same.

MSBackup is very inconsistent, which is something you don't want in a backup app. For example, some times it wouldn't restore my Handyshopper databases, and they were in the backup. You could hard reset and restore it again, and sometimes they WOULD then be restored. Very strange. I noticed that for a few other files as well.

You have been forewarned! I don't make this stuff up and I spend a lot of time reading these posts and also see what others have trouble with. Again, I stand behind my statements. If it works for you, that's fine, but others may not be so lucky !

Yes, at times it has, other times no way, no matter how hard one tries. I agree with Rod (ridunn) that MS Backup can be inconsistent. Other backup apps won't do it at all. When some developers were questioned about it, they said there was technical reasons for why it can't be restored.

JB Backup. It rocks!!

It makes an image of your system memory, and restores everything exactly as it was. And it restores FAST!!

Could JBBackup work on NX70V or, more precisely, on Palm OS 5 devices?

One problem you will encouter is if you have NetFront installed. You can not restore NetFront using a hotsync or MSBackup. The error you encouter puts the Clie into a reset loop. When you said "fatal loop" that may be a symptom of trying to restore NetFront. You must use ClieFiles to delete all the 11 NetFront files from the back up directory then restore it again. Look at the creator id for NF3T, not all the files have obvious names.

I was given a tip recently that you can put NetFront on to a MS by using PowerRun. I did that and found that MSBackup will work because NetFront is no longer backed up by MSBackup.

But for the devices that it does work on, I agree that it's probably the best. Very reliable and very fast. Probably the thing I miss the most from my NR days.
